      I just rough up the pad & the hull with 120 grit paper& then Epoxy the pads on. But first I smear on a coat of medium CA glue with my finger, making sure to rub it well into face & the edges. Totally seals & toughens the wood. This is only on the face & edges not the backside where the epoxy will be.
      Once fitted I sand them smooth. Add a coat of thinned Urethane floor coating & sand smooth with some 400 paper. You will note in the pics that the rest of the sponsons are also sanded with 400 paper to reduce drag.

      It's possibly my favorite boat at the moment. Not real fast but bags of fun & looks cool. I've just ordered a vintage 1/10 scale driver from Classic Hydro's, to make it look right.

      I've pulled the motor & speedy out of the Popeye to run in a Cyberstorm I've just finished building for testing & set up. So maybe next weekend for the trial on the pads.

        Thank you very much for the fantastic photos. It really makes senses now. I just want to ask this for my own clarification: when you say 3-4mm at the heels of the sponsons I take it that the ride pads EXTEND beyond the blunt end ( this was always clear to me). My foggy understanding has to do with the INNER edge, you had 2mm of the ride pads OVER the INNER edge, Am I correct?
        Another thing was an earlier post between you and Ray, regardless of the different opinions, I want to understand what will "trip" the hull. I thought if one turns CW , the outside of starboard will cause trouble if it is EXTENDED, but I read and come to understand otherwise?
        Too many boats, not enough time...

          To simplify my perspective if you are turning CW, all the edges attacking the water I like to have a little blunt or angle but, for all edges shedding water I like them sharp and with a bit of extension. Of course it's nice to have a hydro you can make left hand corrections without out it blowing off the water too, not an easy trade off but, some guys have it nailed, I'm still working on it.

            You are correct on both points in your first question.
            But your second point, & to reiterate what Ray has said in regards to the outside edges of the sponsons, it is best to have an overhang on the Starboard sponson & have the pad flush & angled with the side skin of the Port sponson. That way it can't grab the water in a turn & trip.
            But the overhang on the inside edges of either sponson can't, in my opinion, grab any water to trip a boat over in a turn. Just leave them flush if it is a concern.

            I'll just add my theory & observations here.
            Since the hull rides on the last inch or so of the ride planes, & if the turn fin is doing its job properly, the side slip should be negligible. I don't see how an overhang on the inside of the right hand sponson can cause the hull to trip over. If anything, if that little edge does grab any water it would pull that sponson down tighter onto the water in the turn. But the overhang is to increase straight line speed by stopping the water riding up the inside edges of the sponsons & then along the bottom of the hull. That's all drag. We do it on the trailing edges & the outside edge of the right hand sponson for the same reason. to stop the water riding up the hull & creating drag.
            It seems to work an my other hydros.
