Scratch Built P Sport Hydro from CAD

Updated with pics of the final product!!!

Hi guys. I’ve been working on this boat for longer than I want to admit. I was ready to bookshelf this whole thing and buy a GP335 to race next year, but thought…why not try to build this thing! At least it will provide some entertainment value. So here goes the build thread/clown show……

I tweaked the CAD model over the last few months and tried to think of all the pros and cons of current boats that I own, and how I could address each. Everything is limited to ‘my experience’, hence why other opinions are always welcome.

I started with a ‘cab forward’ approach. I’ve always struggled to get more weight up front on almost every FE boat I’ve owned so far. I’m hoping this approach will result in no weight added in the sponsons. Who knows, it may just end up nose diving!!

I also wanted flat tape all around, thus the separate nose cone. Easy, robust seal, and maintains the scale/sport look.

Packaging is anoter problem I’ve had, especially with (2) 4S batts for full P, so I planned everything around (2) 4S 5000mah packs. A hydra 240 will fit between the batts, so that should cover pretty much any ESC I plan to use.

Vented sponsons are a must. The faster and faster these things go, the less air I find I need to trap underneath…

The transom will be at the absolute minimum width per the NAMBA rule.

I have some time off next week, so hopefully I can start building it soon...

      What are the important dims?

Tunnel Depth (at sponson transom), Tunnel kick up angle/depth from the fork leading edge (if any), Transom width at the narrowest point, sponson AOA, and sponson dihedral (are they different on the left vs. right)?

Lots to consider... I will be interested to see how this progresses.

      Later,
      Mike

Mike - I will try to get you a stp file tomorrow. The spreadsheet I sent should have all the other dimensions.

Some folks spend their lunch......ah....well......'eating'. And others spend it constraining boat parts to one plane. Geek city here. Oh well, should be ready to cut. I'm going to cut these out by hand.

Use a saw. You'll find it works better! Looking forward to seeing it on the water.

Well..... aren't you guys just a barrel of monkeys.

I put the templates over the sheet of wood last night. Do I dare say it with this audience....? Well....apparently.... I don't have enough wood.
