Thanks, anyone notice how my boat gravitates toward the ONLY marker on the pond? I was trying to keep close to shore most of the time for an easy recovery if needed. But there is a reason I'm gun shy around that marker...
Yea, my boats seem to head for things in the water too...it's like they are magnetically attracted lol. Even the shoreline attracts my boats (run the geico around lol).

Ok... we gotta talk! Yours looks WAY more stable than mine does!
It's the twins Darin. The counter roating wheels push her up on plane. At low speeds the sponsons still dig in and steer the boat. With a single the torque from the prop combined with the starboard sponson digging in is most likely the issue. If you can get it on plane it should run fine, but.... can you fight through the bow steer to get there? I don't know.

OH, I can certainly get the boat to drive fine up onto plane... Does about what yours does there. I need to get into a situation where I'm not so worried about flipping it at speed and needing to recover, so I can really push it.
Did I see correctly that your hull seems to rotate pretty hard to the right, almost burying the right side of the hull as it's driving up onto a plane??
If that's just how it is, I'm good with that.
Mine basically did all that yours appears to do, but it was porpoising a bit too much for me to feel comfortable pushing it further. Jay Turner suggested that perhaps it just needed to go FASTER to get on step.
I can see that now, as these truly stepped hulls are designed to work correctly at specific speed ranges, and outside of that, they are a compromise.
I will take this with me to the next race and maybe see if I can get some practice water time on her so I can really open it up with a recovery boat nearby...

Yes it did list hard to the right but would also do it on the left, just depended on what side dug in first. I agree that it just needs to go faster. This is the nature of the beast with this design. My cg was also pretty far forward, it could of been aired out a bit more but I didn't want to chance a blow over/recovery.

All these extra parts and boats you guys have and you don't have a recovery boat? Shame on you! I don't leave home without mine! Very easy to make (I know you two could make one better than what I have! ) and very cheap.

I had recovery boats, just threw my back out and didn't want to have to unload and get in the big boat if I didn't have to. Sometime the RC recovery boat dosen't do the job, especially if the boat is floating with just the sponson tips showing.

I've ran my single prop 25 Darin. It's tough to get up out of the water at first, but then it's fine. The strut adjustment on mine is very sensitive. You may need to change the angle, or may just need to go faster.
As far as the right sponson digging in on yours, it's absolutely from the single prop drive. The twins can go back and forth, from one sponson to the other (this is also the case with MHZ mystics, HPRs, etc.). If you were to swap the prop/flex out for a counter-rotating prop it would definitely plant the left sponson instead.
Now I'm getting excited to get this back on the water...
Also gives me a lot more respect for those REALLY fast CAT guys at the SAW events... To get one of the bigger ones tuned and lined up to do 130+ is really something.

its like we used to say when riding street bikes, if you see it, you will hit it. its like target fixating. theres a duck decoy in the pond i run at and i always seem to come close to hitting it
Nice job on your boat joel. Having your cg too far forward can cause boat hop. Sometimes we add a touch of negative or down on the strut angle to help it from blowing over. On yours Joel you could probably use a little shim behind the strut if neccesary. But bottom line is sometimes you just have to go for it and see if it wants to lift off. Moving cg forward helps and is neccesary but causes an ill behaving boat at slow speed. It's a balance act and your going to have to except your going to blow off getting there. The sooner you figure that out the sooner your going to go faster.
