    Revolt 30 rebuild

I figured i would make a post highlighting my Revolt 30 rebuild. Here is a link to the thread i made asking if i should rebuild or not. http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...air-or-buy-new Long story short, i cut my dad's revolt off and it decided to punch a hole through my hull. I obviously decided to repair it and do some minor upgrades while its apart.

This is my first RC Boat but i have been in the RC hobby for close to 20 years (im 25). I have also built many real cars and now have a couple of real boats that i am building/modifying.

I will keep a list of things i have purchased/replaced here if anyone needs a reference in the future

    1. 30 minute Epoxy from LHS - 11.99

    2. 3/4 oz Fiberglass MAt - 6.99

    3. Motormount from OSE

    Enough blabber, onto the rebuild!!!

Here are some closeups and pics of the carnage!

I originally planned to just JB weld it and let it be. Then i decided to repair it correctly

Here i laid some Fiberglass mat and resin. I used a layer of the thicker stuff that i bought at autozone in a "Fiberglass Repair Kit" and 2 layers of 3/4 oz mat i bought at my local hobby shop

I then mixed up some 30 minute epoxy i bought from my LHS and used it to fill in the hole where i ground out as well as lay a couple layers of 3/4 oz mat on the bottom of the hull

Since i had decided to take this project on and while i was "dry docked" and my favorite color combo is Orange/Black i decided to take my DA some 220 grit and sand off all of the factory paint and get it prepped to prime/paint. While sanding it down i noticed that there was a section on the transom that was cracked/peeling away.

So mixed up some more resin and filled it in

While i was at it, i grabbed my DA and sanded down the epoxy/glass on the hull. It smoothed out with limited filling

After some sanding/block sanding/ DA sanding it was time to throw a few coats of filler primer on. Now i was very tempted to go to my local Autobody store and buy some Automotive grade stuff and spray it, but i just cant justify the cost for a RC boat. When i do my next build i will for sure. So i went to Wally World and bought some Rust-O-Leum, i bought Filler primer, Gloss Orange, Gloss Black, and Clear Coat.

        Here it is in Primer

Because i am sort-of a perfectionist, i wet sanded with 800, then 1000, then 2000 in between coats of primer and paint.
        3 coats of Orange later:

So, incase you didnt know there are actually instructions on Spray Paint cans, sometimes it helps if you read them...

I loved the way it looked, however it had some orange peel, i went ahead and let it cure for a couple hours, then wet sanded with 2000. I wanted all of the orange peel out and figured ONE more coat then clear, dry, wet sand, clear, dry, repeat a few times.......

Well, apparently if you dont re-coat with Rustoleum within an hour you must wait 48 hours. Or this will happen:

THE PAINT CRACKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man i was LIVID! So i had to let it dry pretty good (about 3 days) and then attempt to sand it.

So I took a break, drank a couple of beers and went and sanded it. Apparently rustoleum dries very very hard and the coarsest i had was 400 grit (except 220 DA discs). I start wet sanding and get it as smooth as possible. Ive pretty much given up at this point and dont even care what it comes out like. I decide to spray it with filler primer and paint it.

Next i sprayed about 5 HEAVY coats of clear on. (you can see the clear ran on the tape on the bottom of the hull)

I am very happy that the Clear smoothed out what i didnt sand out. I will have more pictures/posts soon just needs to dry before i can install the Motor mount/paint the rest of the boat and add my Black Accents

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions
