      Any special type grease?
Maybe something that is used on a real outboard engine?

Yep, just good old marine grease. Some like to use rc specific marine grease, but normal marine grease works great. And you get alot more for your money.

Regrease the shaft every run, or every other run if you want to be lazy.

            Thanks for that
            Here's another question
When I set up my rudder, how many degrees in either direction do I want it to be able to turn?

As far as the EPA on your radio will let you, without stressing the servo.

Sorry I'm just learning the acronyms. Really - this is the first time I even thought about anything remote controlled and having a fun with it so far.
                What's EPA?
The servo arm has several holes for the push rod. The farther the hole is from center, seems like it would give the rudder more travel for the same amount of rotary motion of the servo. Just curious how much travel I should target for good handling. Is the rotary motion of the servo adjustable somehow?

Yes you're thinking correctly. Epa is your "end point adjustment" on your radio. This can set the servo action to stop at a certain point. What radio do you have? What hull is this?

The radio is dh-TACJ024 Tactic Pistol Tx & Rx Combo
The hull is scratch built - 36" long and same hull shape as a cigarette boat

Ok on that radio it will be the st.rate dial. Turn it up as far as you can until the servo starts buzzing, then back off just until it stops. Now if you have to adjust the steering trim once you get on the water, (to get the boat to coast straight) you'll have to adjust the st.rate again.

Can you provide some insight on the flex shaft?
Does it need to run inside a tube of some sort or just completely exposed from the motor to the hole in the transom where it enters the strut tube? That would be about 6”

                          Another question
Apparently the ESC powers the radio receiver so it doesn't need separate batteries. Does the ESC plug into the battery spot in the receiver or one of the others.

Yes the flex shaft should ride inside of brass tubing, or stainless tubing. Make sure you have the right size. And make sure it is bent/lined up to the motor shaft properly and secured down.

Your esc plugs into the throttle channel of your receiver. (Channel 2)

                              Thanks
I'm assuming since the shaft is flexible it's meant to compensate for some misalignment. I wasn't going to go too crazy attempting to tilt the motor so it's shaft is aimed perfectly into the strut tube. Is that a reasonable assumption?
