    Wildthing Build

Just after suggestions on length with this one, here's my running gear:

    KB45 - 8XL
    OEMRC 100 amp esc.
4S1P 5000mah/20c Zippy Lipo pack.(can run a pair in parallel)
Ordered from OSE-Speedmaster Mono Harware System,KB water jacket,OSE
mono turn fins, .150 assembled flex cable.

    I'm builing from Fijian Cedar-3mm.
    Will possibly fiberglass it too.

Intended for sport use / while fitting in race specs.

Looking at between 33" and 36".

    Thoughts anyone??

I think you are on the right track, but if you are wanting to use an economy controller, think about using this one. The KB motors can draw a lot of amps. Your setup will probably push it around 40 mph.

HiModel GX Seires 200A 3-7S Brushless Electric Speed Controller Type GX-200A-OPTO from manufacturer HiModel, in category Brushless Speed Control (BL ESC) - Air/ Helis, Electric Speed Control (ESC).

Limit it to 125 amps, not 200.

OSE might start selling these, but dont see any.

What about hull length too?? They are a heavy lump.

That is best performance max amps rating, but it can use over 100 amps easy. My KB45 10XL has used up to 135 amps before, just depends on how big a prop you load it with.

Your hull length/weight is good for a KB motor.

I am going to try an KB 8XL in a 29 inch Mean Machine with a small Y537/3 prop on one of these controllers. Think its going to scream around 50 mph on 18 NiMH's. This setup will not work in a 33 to 36 inch hull. The prop is to small.

I built mine from 2.5 mm marine ply, glassed only the seems and at 31" is a heavier hull than my DF 33. Out of 3mm and glassed at 33+" it would be to much for a small esc, go with the 200amp unit and with those lipo's two pack would be manditory I think. Good luck they are a fun build and good hull.

              Thankyou for your tips guys!
I think that going with the 3mm ply,i won't need to glass it neccesarily,i'm not keen on doing it if i don't need to.
Deestingray didn't glass his Wildthing and he says it's hanging in well after a few big blowovers.
I was mostly concerned that the hull at 33" (my preference)may be too short and lacking stability. But it sounds as though it will be ok.
I have a Micropower, so i can start small with the props and upgrade the speedy when i have the $$.

By building longer,i would have the option of running 6S too??
Obviously the esc would need to be much better quality than the fortune cookies.
