Getting back to the FE hobby after a twin gasser scale offshore project

Well, it seems like I used to live on this site. Then we bought a large camper 3 years ago and my time here dwindled and then ceased to exist! I didn't get out of boats, I just really dedicated myself to a twin offshore scale build the past two years. I have always had a spot in my heart for the old school offshore boats having grown up in the Miami Vice era. So when I had the chance to rebuild a scale twin gas offshore boat, I dove in. It has been a lot of work and money over the past two years, but it is worth it! Still a ways to go on it with finishing details and such, but at least I can use it now. Oh, scale is 1:1

1986 Formula 272 LS and she has twin 350's pushing a total of 600 HP. She is fun! I need to refinish my old 40" deep vee (Dumas) to look like her as much as possible now. (See, this does relate to a boat build! http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ghlight=scarab )

Well, I still have all my RC stuff and am getting into the smaller boats which look fun. Need to dig out my hobby king genesis which I never even ran! Fix up my proboat mini-v fleet and have some fun with that. Get the vacuum table back out and start creating again also. Tons of stuff to do and lots to catch up on. My boys are now 11 and 13, so they are at that age.

On my short list is building the 1:36 scale offshore Scarab 38 kv. Wondering how I was going to do that, and now I see that proboat is coming out this fall with something similar, just 4" shorter! How about that, think I found a deal on my internals for the mini Scarab KV.

Glad to see the site is still here and that Steven is doing a great job keeping his rep up as the best jewelry / RC boat shop in the country. Hope to pick up on some old online friendships here and add to the community.

Brian! Freaking awesome! Had a friend of my dads back in late 89 bought a 272 w/ the twin 454s in it. In 93 he hired me to run it a couple times a week so that when he had company it would run and not be gummed up carbs or dead batts. I was just telling someone the story today of how much fun an 18 year old had taking his friends out to lunch on the weekend, all expenses paid by the boat owner.... must be nice to have $. Ive been watching a few here and there on the internet. My goal is to have a 272 next year.
Glad to see you back and cant wait to see your scale model.

Thanks Scott. Talk to me before you buy something. I bought one for cheap that should have gone to the dump, but I am bringing it back. After spending all my time here, I ended up living at Offshoreonly.com Kinda odd since the names are so familiar. Anyways, there is a formula section there with a few of us who have done rebuilds and what not. My project started in November of 2011 and is now about 30 pages long, lots of info on that site.

It is odd to be on a full size offshore boat site and somebody will post a link to a really cool model they saw, sometimes offshoreelectrics. Everyone there will put more gas in there tank for a day than what the model cost, but people really get excited about the scale offshore boats, especially electric ones.

I will slowly get back into the hobby. Getting my genesis running first. Got it 2 years ago and it has never been wet.

Then I will concentrate on my 40" mono. I think I am going to go more scale and build two scale outdrives for it. Not true Z drives, but the steerable flex cable version.
