    sk daddle build

I have always liked the classic look of the dumas sk daddle . I found one kit in the box for sale locally ( yard sale ) so I thought why not . i'm not too sure if there will be too much interest in this build but here goes .

A couple years ago a member posted his build. It was a popular thread. How will you rig it?

Wow! That's a blast from the past. I built an SK40 back around 1972. Had lots of fun with it.

Of course there is interest as many guys like me had one of this dumas kit in the late 70's with an OPS 60..never was able to have it run well due to the lack of right propellors but it's Always nice see vintage models.Good luck with your Project.Gill

Had an interesting time bending the wood for the barrel back but I managed . I had to soak the wood for about 30 min in hot water to get it to bend , I had to get all my clamps out and make them handy for this part of the build . once in place I used the heat gun to speed up the drying process. All in all it went fairly well . I'll post some pics of this part as soon as I can. What is everyone's take on the outboard setup. Or should I run inboard surface drive. I'm not a fan of the underwater setup called for in the build sheet.

By the way Ron that is a cool boat in the pick posted. I've always liked that style of boat. I'll get one some day. She says we don't need anymore boats. And one more thing ...... What the heck is a reed radio ? The 60's was before my time.

Heck, reeds were high tech! My first R/C radio transmitter had a single button on the front. You pushed the button once to go right, twice to go left, and blipped it quickly to change from stop to forward to stop to reverse. With boats going less than 10 mph it wasn't as difficult as it seems once you got used to it.

Reed radios actually had several metal petals (reeds) in the receiver which vibrated at different frequencies, one for each channel. You flipped a toggle switch on the transmitter and one receiver reed would vibrate enough to make an electrical contact and turn on a servo - steering or throttle. It was all or nothing on the servo with either full movement or no movement - no "proportional" control. I got my first 2-channel proportional radio in the late 70s and never looked back.

as promised some more pics .

the second pic shows the wood for the sheeting being soaked in the sink with some hot water . I placed some coins on the sheets to try to give a neutral buoyancy , these remained in there for 30 min . the rest show the amount of clamps used . I also used a steel rule from a combination square up top to give some even clamping pressure on the ply . slow and steady wins here on this part of the build .
