This is the cloth I have. Seems pretty light weight.

    Looking at layout options..

I made this turn fin a while back for an old abs hydro. Would this hull benefit from a bent fin? What about size?.

Once I glass the hull and add the doublers I'm stuck for a bit. I don't have any hardwear for this thing and I don't wanna try to skin it and fight with it later so ill have to figure out a strut and rudder first.

Kevin, the lightening holes serve to lighten the boat but they also allow for water to get out. Try to make sure all the areas are able to drain and air dry.

As Peter noted, I made the deck opening wider to help with component install and battery access. I also added corner bracing and glue blocks to many of the joints. The trade off in the small amount of added weight is worth the strength and rigidity, IMO.

The plans show the drive line offset and I built mine that way, but I'm not sure much if any performance is gained from it.

Sealing your boat is actually a pretty important step. I use west systems for all my builds, but it's expensive and not available at your LHS. I have used Z-Poxy finishing resin, which should be at your LHS, with good results too. At the very least, use an epoxy of some sort and not a fiberglass resin. Epoxy and FG resin don't like to play well together and you could have issues later in the build.

      Hope this helps.

      Scott

I use epoxy resin to seal and got the lightest cloth they have at a local marine chandlery shop. The inside of mine has a layer of this put in before the deck went on. I'll put some more pics up tonite.

Ok got some finishing resin. Is the fiberglass cloth I have gonna be too heavy to line the whole hull? Does it need to be lined or just sealed? I know I want to do atleast 1 layer at the motor mount point, the transom, and the back of the right sponson for the fin..
I didn't get the birch ply for the doublers cuz I didn't want to spend the 23$ for a sheet of it. What else can I use? I got 3/32 basswood?

Hi Kevin, the basswood will be ok, as long as you have a light f/g cloth weight shouldn't be a problem, it's the resin that adds weight so don't over do it. I usually coat the wood surface with enough resin to 'wet' it, and then work the cloth over it with a small paint brush (cheap disposable type), only brushing in more resin as needed. If you get a bit much on then use some paper towels to mop some up. I haven't worried too much about hull weight on mine as the hardware is by far the greatest weight of the boat overall and I want a strong boat.

On the plans there is instructions for making an 1/8" wire drive. Im not sure if I wanna go wire or flex. Moreover what motor to run.. I have a rimfire 1200kv outrunner I've been hanging on to. Would that push this thing around decent till I can get a spec motor for it?
