Shouldn't you be able to use 15 or 30 min epoxy to cover where your putting your CF, then set the cf in and move it around till its where you want it, then brush some epoxy over the top to seal it? On fiberglass cloth where I cut it from the roll and the shape I need, I put a thin bead of ca, let it dry, then it cuts very nice and keeps the weave in tact, I assume the same on CF. Good luck.
    Twin power =

Dont know, I thought I sprayed a light mist coat I could barely see it on the hull and the cloth tacked down nice and smooth. I did thin the epoxy with alcohol. Maybe its because I worked outside in a 95 degree day with the sun directly on the project.

But I have had success laminating carbon to the hi power rocket air frames me and the wife build with out using the spray adhesive. So I have no clue why.

thanks people for all the great advise, i'll start with sanding the inside of the hull ,then clean up everything,i'll glue the cloth in place with ca , then cover the cloth in resin then smooth everything out. i'll post pics when im finished (in a week)

                  That is your first time?!
                  not too shabby my friend!
I am yet to take the CF plunge...
I surfed a lot and had to patch my boards every now and then, so I have
a bit of experience with glass cloth. I think the tacking with CA is a good solution,
a couple of dabs here and there and it should be fine with the heated Epoxy.
I have a project that will get the CF treatment
and I'll post the result here when done.
                  Good job man

                    turned out really well.

                    about thinning with heat...
Buy good laminating resin and forget heating it....west systems have a good low viscosity resin system...aerospace composites ez-lam is another one I've used extensively. Both are thin enough that therere's no reason to thin via heat (losing precious working time) or solvents (nasty business).

thanks for the comments guys , it looks OK in the pics but it is not perfect there are a few air bubbles here and there , and a little thick in some spots , but over all I'm pretty happy how it turned out. Have a look on the rum runner racing electrics ( offshore forums) I've tryed to explain how i did it there.

anyone who decides to work with this stuff, please take proper safety precautions. ESPECIALLY if you are cutting it after it's hardened.

                        1) Protect ALL exposed skin. Wear latex gloves with a long sleeve sweater, and tape the cuffs to the gloves.

                        2) Safety glasses are a must

                        3) Cover your head with a hat or something

                        4) More important than anything, wear a respirator. Not a dust mask, an actual approved respirator.

I work with CF and fiberglass all the time at home. The fumes are SUPER bad for you. Also, when you cut the stuff once hardened, under a microscope the fine powder looks like little spears. When you inhale these spears they go to work in your lungs, creating scar tissue, which is a huge cause of cancer. Talk to anyone in the industry, and they will tell you how deadly it is. If the stuff gets into your bloodstream and into your liver, you have more problems. I recently inherited a monster liver problem because of one brain fart and not wearing my respirator. Next thing you know I'm in the hospital and off work for 6 weeks. It's been 3 months, liver still not working 100%.

So please, take the proper safety precautions.

no problem. And thanks. That's Jessica Alba

oh ya, and if you want a REAL good reason to follow my guidelines (other than it causing cancer), you can't if your liver is messed up. Very unsafe. Don't know why, but the liver doctor told me stick to holding hands til you are 100%.

I knew there was a reason I liked that shot... big fan, like all males.

not that the cancer is not a good reason but the cherry on the top is the sticking to 2nd base... that blows... get the play on words?
