They are in San Jose. It was $400.

It was worth it for the CNC. Only I would make them decrease their tolerances next time because it was pretty rough, some of the steps aren't as deep as they should be, strakes are not straight, etc. I fixed it all with the coating and sanding, but for $400 I shouldn't have had to put that much work into it myself.

The plugs are about done. They just need some wax.

Still not sure if I should brush or spray PVA. I don't have a spray gun so I'd have to buy one. Is it worth it?

I wipe a wet coat on with a piece of clean T-shirt, has worked well for several plugs.

I get confused because half the people I talk to say that works fine. And others swear by spraying. As soon as the paint cures I'll wax, then do a test run and see for myself.

Man I haven't updated this thing in a long time.

Boat still isn't done unfortunately. Here's some progress that has been made on the build.

Deck and Hull molds

Did a vacuum infusion test on 2 different cloth layouts.

First is a 2x4x2 of carbon fiber and glass. 8 layers total.

Second is a 4x4x4 of carbon and glass. 12 layers total.

Carbon is 2/2 twill 3k 199g. The glass is 6oz E glass.

The weight for the 8 layer setup turned out to be .055 oz/in^2

The weight for the 12 layer setup turned out to be .081 oz/in^2

For the boat deck and hull I decided to go with a 3x4x3 layout. Should be about .068 oz/in^2

According to the SolidWorks model the boat has a surface area of 1050 in^2

So the final product should weigh about 4.5 - 5 lbs. The hardware and batteries weigh about 7.5 lbs

Finished boat should weigh about 12-13 lbs give or take.

This is where I am at as of now. Infusion of the deck is complete. The 3x4x3 layout added up to 2 lbs 10 oz. There is a lot of excess material that needs to be cut off so it actually weighs a lot less.
