    Converting Nitro to Electric rigger

    Hi Guys

i'm relatively new to fast electric and i was hoping for some advice on building an eletric rigger.

My plan was to convert an Andy Brown Eagle SG 45 rigger into a 6s electric using a Leopard 4082 1600 motor. I'm looking for advice on weight distribution and total weight of the rigger, what prop size i should be looking at using etc.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello Steve and Welcome to OSE,

A 6S system will probably be a tight fit in an Eagle 45 unless you are willing to relocate the front radio box bulkhead towards the rear and move the motor and stuffing tube further back.

You can probably fit a 4200mAh 6S pack where the fuel tank sits and perhaps fit an esc alongside the motor.

Several others run Eagle riggers as FE, but most are specifically built for FE with different bulkhead locations.

Here is 6S layout for reference with battery, esc and motor inline.

      Thanks Tyler
I built the rigger 10 years ago to fit a 45 nitro but never got round to fitting an engine into it as i was to busy racing mono circuit. I decided a few months i would would look into getting the boat onto the water as an electric but my main conern is the weight distribution. and total weight of the boat. I must have a look at the boat tonight and see how easy it would be to relocate the bulkhead and stuffing tube that is currently in place.

Thanks for the pics they have given me a cople of ideas.

        Steve,

Honestly it is probably not worth gutting the eagle to convert to FE. I have a 45 SGX and know how weight sensitive it is. You will have a very hard time trying to balance the CG. In addition the extra weight will require a larger turnfin to hold the rigger in the turns compared to the nitro version.

          Thanks Tyler

my mind is made up i will build it as a nitro as it was designed. Does Andy make an electric version of his Eagle?

I think you will be much happier building it as intended. I love mine and know it would be a PITA to convert.

Andy can make a FE version of any of his hulls. He has done this for several guys whose boats run quite well once sorted.

I've run a couple of Andy's riggers over the years with great sucess, and i've even started running my old Tidewater Jag 45 again in the past few months, i forgot how nice to drive she was. I do have a very nice brand new MAC 45 which i bought for it many years ago and still have not run to date. I must get it out and put it together.

Is there any riggers that are designed to run on 6s already in the market place that i can buy or is it a scratch build job?

Not really. The JAE is probably the closest design that can be easily sized and/or modified for 6S. There may be some coming out this year. I know of one in the works. There are several P-Spec riggers available.
