    Twin Accellerator Cat Build

Bean hanging around the forum for some time now checking out the different builds and interesting people here.
I have made a return into RC Boating after 20 years. Wow how things have changed !!! The main change is the size of my wallet !!! I have a machine shop in my garage and have some experience in carbon fiber fabrication. Mostly Rocket parts. I have just documented a carbon fiber fin build: http://tinyurl.com/4amh6d So far this fin setup went Mach 3.1
I have just started a Mini Cat Racing Accelerator Catamaran build and wanted to share the experience with all in this forum, NOT !!! I am here cuz I need advice and HELP !!!
First off is the Hull. It almost took two weeks to arrive, Talk about snail mail. The condition was just OK one side of the hull is a bit OFF and the paint has a lot of orange peel. I guess the peel is good for the bottom of the hull.
The tunnel was really weak so the first thing I did was laid some carbon fiber to the hull and while I had the material I laminated two square feet of carbon fiber for future parts.
The first part I maid was a carbon fiber bulkhead/motor mount I hoped the bulkhead would add rigidity to the tunnel.
When the drives get located I will drill the carbon fiber bulkhead for the BL Motors.
I need help locating the center of gravity and a simple explanation of how this works, remember I am new. I think this is impotent for the motor location.

Here are some pictures of the hardware installed. The rudder came from Fuller I wanted a triangular rudder support for the standoff. Fuller sent the part right away and it arrived two days later, Very nice part and high quality !!!
The next PART(s) was from Off Shore Electric the Stinger(s) I wish I could show you a picture of two stingers but they only sent me one of the two I ordered ??? I am hoping they make good on the goof.
Now I have a question or two:
The rudder looks a little short to me, Is the length OK or should I make a longer one ???
A lot of the builds have epoxy around G-10 bulkheads and motor mounts. The epoxy looks kind of hazy and appears to go on thick, Any info on what it is called or where I could get it would be great. The epoxy I use is to thin and takes to long to set up.

First off cool boat! have any dimensions on it or a link? the rudder looks ok, give it a try first. I see alot of cats running shorter and shorter rudders. The epoxy you are wanting can be found here at OSE store under building supplies. Or at tower hobbies sells it. It can also be thinned down depending on your app. looking good so far! as far as cog you should balance that around 33% from transom. Use location of motors along with battery placement to gain that %. Make sure to leave plenty of room for batttery placement adjustment. good luck.

          Rudder servo layout.
I need to make some kind of device to hold the servo. I would like to make this out of carbon fiber and input would be great !!!
Is this JR DS537 digital servo OK for boats ??? I am trying to use as many parts I have in stock.
I will also be using two SV27 BL motors that I have in conjunction with two of the Off Shore Electric X-power 100 amp ESC that I will get soon.
Any input on prop size ???

Every one around here knows how much I dig the CF so I am liking this build right off the bat. Making your mount out of CF is fine. I do it all the time. In most cases I have a radio tray I mount in the boat on a couple of stringers. This brings it up of the tunnel and allows you to run wiring under for a nice clean layout. You can even screw it down to allow for inspection. In regards to the servo I epoxy it right to the tray with some support on either side. Your rudder looks "ok". You can't be sure until you test. I'd say leave it and replace it after the fact if you have to.
It is a bit early for prop advice. You have to choose motors and what batteries your using first. I would run a set of 9xl's on 120 amp esc's. My preference is for BEC units over tx battery packs to power the radio system. 4s lipo would be the power you need for that setup. 40mm cf props would make a good start for testing. Then you can move to metal props when you get some amp and temp data collected. The servo you have should be fine.

Here is the way I decided to mount the rudder servo The carbon fiber plate extends to the rudder standoff for additional support and gives me plenty room to work in the standoff area.
Some other pics for those of you that ever tried to cut carbon fiber. With the right tools it cuts like butter.

The boats 31" inches long Sv motors can turn some serious prop 2 of them should move it nicely.

I like the hi power rockets those are cool a friend and I are gonna launch our first "M" motor in June.

The frequency I presume is 72 mhz and not 75 mhz. This may cause a problem, as I believe Deans antennas were frequency specific.
