There is a gentleman named shockerman on here that seems to have these figured out but, he stresses mounting them as close to the tunnel as possible. As far as the depth I am not sure, I put the bottom of strut about 1/16" up from bottom of ride pads. The reason for mounting so close to tunnel he said is cause props will tend to cavitate especially at high speeds if they are not mounted as close as possible.
the further out from the center line of the hull they are the more unstable the hull is. If one prop comes out of the water the other props thrust will rather violently push the boat in that direction. the farther from the center line the worse the effect gets. I usually try to set up my struts as low as possible on the hulls
(usually the bottom of the strut will be even with the bottom never any lower). I dont claim to have boats figured out by any means these are just what has worked with the two twins i have designed and built.
I agree with Shockerman, mount them as close as possible to the inner corners of the sponsons.
This applies to full size and models.
The picture below is my twin Jolly set up that works fine with the drives set at 0 trim.

In ward and low but dont go below the hull... mine are set about1/16 above the lowest point where they mount.. hope the pics help if not i can take more,
So far I like how mine handles. So far smooth and on rails. Tho we shall see once I up the props to x447...
What are you building ??? I just ordered a 31" ACCELLERATOR Catamaran and I have the same question. What is the size of your hull and what stingers will you be using ???
I like the stingers that offshore sells but at 84mm I am thinking these may be to long ??? Has any one ever cut the offshore stingers ???
i building the maritimo cat(38in) with twin neu motors, here are some photos of the stingers(mtc) so far havn't made up my mind on placement yet , thanks to all for the replys.
Hi Guys
I'm told the ideal position for the prop is positioned so that the leading edge is 10% of the hull length behind the transom, so a 30 inch hull for instance would have the front of the prop 3 inches behind the transom.
It should not ideally be less than this, but I don't think it matters too much if it is slightly more.
That is the position I have used for my DV hulls and the Jolly and it works fine for me.
IMO on your Maritimo if you install the stingers with the edge of the mount flush with the inside edge of the sponson it should be fine.
Twin cats rock.
