    Take a look here:

    http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...02&postcount=3

This was in a thread about props for the SV27, but it explains the basics of prop nomenclature.

Tell us what hull/motor you have and you will get lots of recommendations for good props.
    Don't get me started

A long time ago when Bass Boats and bass fishing was coming on the scene we all had them, there was a good 5 of us in NJ. What we were into was making them fast. Mine did almost 80, at that time we were real fast compared to anything on the water anywere. We found that changing the jets in the carb along with a few other adjustments, the prop and motor hight with trim was the brains behind everything. The Yamaha motors were real fast and I had one, motor was worked but even stone stock it was freaking fast. The differnce was in the prop and correct placement of the motor. The props were pretty simple, the 3 bladed made that boat quick it grabbed in the corner but top end seemed to be just slow. Put on a 2 bladed prop, so your takeoff was a tiny bit slow but boy was it fast comared to a 3 bladed. The pitch was simple. now of coarse the names have changed and options have come up but the pitch was simple. The numbers that were lower made your boat have better pickup but top end speed was slower(pulliing a skier etc) then you went up so like a 21 was good pickup, a 19 pulls skiers etc, a 26 was about the highest you want to go, why strain the motor and 80 was way plenty, if you went to 28 your motor could not do the 6000 RPM at top end the prop was to big. So that was pitch. There was basic aluminum props for 150 which were nice but when you went to a hot prop, they costed like 600 which was a lot for a prop but one thing... they were SS and did not break. There had a slightly differnt shape but the performance was in the prop, these were factory props I would not even want to touch, no tuning at all, no balancing nothing, they were good out of the factory. These props for the boats are good right out of the factory except for balancing, and trimming off where there mold would end. But the prop perfoms good. So for me, yes there is a lot of tricks to give you a little of this or that, that is my idea of what a prop is and should do. Let me tell you one thing I do know for sure more then my prop, which was a Chopper prop by the way, these were the best out at the time, hands down. Very simler to today RC props, the good ones anyway is. The fishing was great, we had great fishing back then. Not to give all the attention to just Yamaha motor there was another Rocket at that time it was a Merc, I also had one of those and props were the key.
