    Genesis Rebuild

This build has been in progress for about 9 months and I am finally done and she is run tested. It is continued from RC Groups: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1651454

So I ran a wide cutoff wheel down the entire length of the crack to open it up. I taped up the outside with clear packaging tape and poured in some epoxy. Roughly a half inch deep and thats it. There is a nice thick area to thread the rudder mount screws into now.

I am running the Leo 4082, 1600kv, 3/16" driveline, T180 esc, Octura x445 prop, dual inlet/outlet cooling system.

Boat runs good on 4s2p, full throttle turns, speeds in the mid 30's. It runs wickedly fast on 6s2p, massive torque roll if you punch it from a dead stop but is driveable. In the straights it has to be approaching the low 50's. Fast enough for this narrow hull and my novice driving skills.

Motor/esc temps are low enough that I probably could run the X447 I have but that might be overkill!

Nice fix but i must say screwing the rudder mount bolts into the transum is not to good, they can tear out easly,, i always use the tubing for the stuffing box thats just a hair bigger than the bolts, drill the holes inthe transum just big enough so you can press the tubes in threw the transum almost level with the hull then on the inside pore in epoxy so it fills inaround the tubes and is thick,, this way it strengthins the transum and put bolts threw the rudder bracket threw the tubes so you will be tighteing down on the tubes not the actaul transum,, PS i hope you have a plastic bolt in the rudder so it can brake away if you clip a turtle,,,,but good work asfar as fixing it!!!

Thanks for the words of encouragement! The crush support tubes for the strut bolts is a great idea, this winter I will do that for sure. As far as the break-away bolt goes, I actually have a piece of antenna tube in there as scorp sugguested. No more metal screws in there, this is what got the Genesis in the shop for 9 mos.

Nice brotha! I have pretty much the same setup... leo 4082 1600kv, Seaking180a Version 3, X645 & 545, 3/16 driveline, Sky BEC, and 2 x 6s 4400mah 65c.... still waiting on my batteries to get here, my boat has yet to hit the water! It's been about a 2 month build for... I had to research everything... this is my first boat. Can't wait though!!! Thanks for sharing your build with me!

Thanks for the positive words! I love the Genesis even though it gets mixed reviews from people on here. Just one word of advice keep the plastic screw in the breakaway rudder! I recently upgraded my cap bank and started using an external LVC from OSE. I also started to use a resistor when connecting the batteries to stop the elecric arc as it was eating up my my bullet connectors.

I use zip-ties in my rudder for the break away. Call me crazy but it's cheap and works pretty good. I always carry some with me. Check out my genesis on my page.

                Hey Moto,

What did you do to upgrade your cap bank? your mentioned external LVC? is that the same as a BEC? you'll have to pardon my lack of knowledge I purchased a Sky BEC from Keith. Wit regards to the resistor... where can I get one of those? Thanks!

I soldered up an eight pack of large capacitors from OSE to replace the stock 4 pack and icreased the size of the leadwire connecting them to the esc. I also installed a feed connector for the resistor bank that stops the electric arc when connecting the batteries. The resistor bank is just four 1/2 ohm resistors wired 2 in series/and then the pairs paralleled.
You connect the neg to one battery through the resistors and the positive to the esc, connect the other battery to the ESC and the resistor bank can be removed and both batteries connected normally.

As far as the LVC i bought one from OSE and disabled the ESC's internal one as it is suspected to be a little conservative on the battery voltage.

Thanks for the input Moto! I think this may be above my current skill set.... I've never solder capacitors together, not confident yet that I know what I'm doing That being said, is this something I could hire you to do for me? I can paypal you some cash for your time and materials... maybe you could get the capacitors and feed connector put together for me, and I could then get them put on the boat? dunno, just throwing it out there. You have a much better understanding than me, and I'd like to bullet proof my setup as you have done. Hit me up on my cell if you want, or pm me here if you think you could help me out further.

                    Thanks brotha!
