    MHZ Mystic C5000 73" with twin 2028 12s

    Okay guys

I am new here, but I have been building electric boats for quite some time now. I just bought the 73" MHZ C5000 from kevin on this forum. I think I got a pretty good deal and Kevin is a great guy.

Anyhow I would like to run twin castle 2028 both on 12s and 400a ESC from fighter cat. This leaves me with a bunch of questions.

    1. What do you guys thing the top speed would be?
    2. What motor mounts would you use?
    3. Do you think the 400a ECS on each motor will run reliably?
    4. Would you put water jackets on the motors?

Pics will come monday when the hull gets here.

    Thanks

    Jeff

Wow! This'll be somethin.I just started with FC ESC's but all good so far.Benjamin is great to deal with.Where are you gonna find CR props for this beast.
I think I would build my own mounts or check out Bruisers build. His mounting system should do you.

What about MHz motor mounts for their in runner set? They come with a back brace for the long cans. All carbon fiber.. But pricey, you can relocate holes if not lined up I'm sure.
As far as props what about 447's, Evan 450 3 blades? Both sold here..think fighter cat may Evan have 4553 blades, good luck

Btw once you determine props you can get idea of speed with the calculation page on this site. It'll give you rough estimate with one complete setup. And you'll be running two so I'd ad 5 to 15 mph although I'm just guessing there but it'll def be faster twins rock!

I would think you would want at least 450's with 2028's.I may even hit them with my 37" Shocker(may try them).Bens got some sweet 1.8 series three blades(can you say AMPS). My detounged X447's aren't even working my TP 4082 motors.I know there are some German made props or the PropShop should have some.Check your choices and read the other twin builds before rushing out and buying props. They add up when you have to get 2 at a time.Since I started my twin build my prop box value went up about $400.

Congrats on landing this beast Jeff! If I wasn't snoozing I would have bought it! 12s may be a bit much for the 2028's. I'm building a 45" Speedfreak Hydro with a 2028 and I emailed Castle for some better details about the motor. Here was the reply

                    "John,
The 2028 is 780kv, and uses Neodymium magnets in a 4-pole configuration. In a car/truck application, the motor is warrantied to 8s, and in a proper boat set up, it is warrantied to 10s. The motor weighs 44 oz, but we do not publish any amp ratings or resistance to the public.

I still haven't been able to find a max amp rating or resistance #'s. If your not worried about warranty then 12s them. But I wouldn't expect to have Castle cover them if they blow. Myself, I'm going to run a pair of TP5000-10SPP65L 5000mAh 10-Cell/10S 37V in 10s2p for a total of 10000 mah. It'll be covered under warranty if I blow it as I'm going to document it and send a list to the Rep for registration. I haven't seen anyone else push it to 12s yet and I think there is a reason why. Just an awfully expensive motor 2 cook!

Are there any motors out there that can take 12s

Jeff, Congrats on getting this beauty!!
Firstly 780kv on 12s will give you 39K'ish is unloaded. Thats fine!! I would not worry at all. However 73" is a big hull, and will take alot of power to get going fast.
If it was mine I would not use the "traditional way" of mounting motors but rather have mounting plates in the sponsons bottom. Similar to Christians "Golddigger"

jdfenn, i own a couple Castle 2028's and run them in a 47" Mono on 10s2p and a 50" Hydro on 9s2p. I would not run more than 10s. I'm spinnin' an x457/3 on the mono and a cut down s270 Prather on the Hydro. I'd suggest 10s2p(or 3p) and use larger props...............something in the x455/3 or x457 range.

What is the absolute most powerful electric setup for this boat?

Maybe LMT 3080/8 would give you some nice power (656kv)
