    Hammer uprade maybe!!

    Hi all,

just finished this hammer upgrade. I think it might be anyhow, the hardware is a little beefy though but it was what I had laying around.
Will be trying it out this weekend, it sounds good on the bench and everything works.
I'm sure the drive will need some adjusting
    well here are some pics
any laughs, jokes, or constructive comments will be appreciated, I had fun putting it together

The cable looks like it has a rather sharp angle where it enters the nose of the strut. You can raise the strut until the angle is nice and smooth, that puts the prop into an semi-surfacing position, which can improve performance - with the right prop. Some props will not work at all in this position. If the one you have cavitates too much, try an Octura X-series prop.

Very nice build by the way!

      Thanks Fluid

I already have raised it alot cause the hardware is for a dumas 40 type nitro boat as you can see in pic
thought it was still too sharp too.
what do you think about the rudder length? I'm thinking it might be too long. Am new to this boat building/modifying with basically parts that do not belong together.
Going to run it too see if it is even runable, it might sink cause of all the weight, have'nt even bathtub tested yet!!
The prop is a stock Cen aquajet that I drilled to fit, I think it is 40 or 42 x 1.4
thought it would be about right for a first try.

Just my little ole opinion but I think its cool as can be! One other suggestion is get some adjustable larger trim tabs. Its gonna try to balance on that prop alot. however you havent changed the motor so you might be just fine with the right prop. goodluck! good to see some creativity

Oh man I did change it
it is a graupner 700 9.6 with probably too many cells 16 and the more I think about it the 30 amp speed controller won't be enough
Do you think it will be bad?

well moved up the prop strut to make it straighter, and with the weight of the batts it was still quite in the water. No major leaks, a little through the flex tube, not much.

first time in water it sat real low and wanted to go up like a rocket, but got on plane.
moved the batts forward and was real nice then.

checked it at about 30 second intervals and everything seemed fine so I changed to fresh batteries and opened it up, ran good for about 3 minutes and started slowing, I thought no problem bring it in. well on the way in it quit and then sputtered but made it in.
Before I could get the hatch off I saw the smoke and then smelled it. I'm sure you've all seen it.
In the bottom of the boat was what was left of the fan from the motor. The esc I think is fine it arms and tries to turn motor but the motor won't turn with power just jumps. maybe I fried both??
I used this motor in my aquajet with 16 cells without incident, guess was putting to much stress on it.
Will look further into it later. But I am sure the motor is bad as it was too hot even to touch. The esc was only slightly warm.
But it went good for those 3 minutes, I would guess on the straight it had to be close to mid 20's and it still turned somewhat like a hammer but not as sharp.

                  16 cells on a Graupner 9.6 ?????
I fried my 9.6 on 12 cells, that fan sure make a smell in the boat when it comes out in smoke form.
Given that you are now up for another 700 may I suggest an 8.4 BB, some of the far more experienced masters here can point you in the right direction for a good 700.
Me ?? I am back to geared, over-celled 600's for the same shaft speed but less weight and cost.
                  See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

                    yeah was being stupid,
I did not realize the 9.6 was less tolerant than the 8.4
now I know, should have looked it up before
all my packs are 8 cells
will have to back off a bit and learn how to make them faster in a better way

                      Try a 700sc on 12 cells with a x442-445
