ML Boatworks New 2 piece Whiplash 20/40 cowling- By popular demand...

Well, I have had my share of arm twisting for me to revisit the Whiplash cowling since I released pics of my own new Sport 20 and cowling. Because of the requests, I decided I would give in, again, and redo the so popular one piece cowling I have offered for a while (and the mold for that is on its last leg), and make it into a two piece, or if someone needs a one piece I can lay it up as one big cowl. As you can see, I have the wood portion done, and tomorrow, in between working on the 6 tunnel boats I am finishing up, I will get it all nice and pretty and ready for making a mold. I will also, be offering a laser cut 1/16" top deck that is precut with an nice clean inset so the cowling can lay in flush. This is hard to explain until I get the first one cut and can show you the inlay. This is something I always have had to cut by hand when building these for others, so its time to just offer it since the kit doesn't. Anyways, here is where I am at so far. I should have a mold ready by the weekend, I think...haha. Enjoy, Mike

Ok, so the end of last week, i finished up the plug, and I laid up the mold Friday evening. I now have the mold polished up, and ready to start receiving mold release so I can pull a cowling this afternoon. Here is the final mold! If anyone is interested in one of these cowlings, just let me know! Thanks, Mike

Got the first cowling out of the mold today. Here are some pics of it before it was trimmed, and after a quick fitment trim. It fits extremely well! Guess I need to contact those I had on the list. Enjoy, Mike

              Thanks Jeff,

I actually was given a vinyl cutter a couple weeks ago, so I may make some up if I get some time.

Oh, I have your 7931 scale hull pulled up on CADD this morning so I can start the 1/10th scale process! Shouldn't be long. Mike

I would like to see the final finished product (painted and window decal installed). Looks cool so far and less expensive than the UL-1 nose cone and hatch.

Detox, Just waiting on my wood order as it has a wood frame I need to complete the hull in the build. Once that arrives, I will finish up the hull, and get it painted. Mike

Hi Mike, This cowl does look verygood, but the windshield decal needs more time and effort. A more streamlined decal would make the cowl pop.
