Vintage 88' - 89' Parma "Ski Tiger"

Hello everybody

It's winter, so i started another build to keep me busy !!.
I picked up this deep v hull a few weeks back, at a price I couldn't refuse.
We weren't sure what it was, but we knew it was ol' skool hobby quality. The paint looked like poo,it was filthy and looked terrible. The hull was in nice shape overall,even though it doesn't have the top, so i wasn't complaining. I posted a shout out for some identification help on it here awhile back.

Thanks to Wingnut, Diegoboy and Srislash, it was confirmed as a Vintage Parma Ski Tiger from 88' - 89' !!!!.
Wingnut dug through the ol' magazines and found a review of her in RcModeler magazine, fall 1988 issue. He emailed it to diegoboy, who hosted it up for us. Appreciate the help guys !!!

I knew what manufacturer it was because on of the old boat club guys had one in Fuschia.It stood out!The whole surface drive on it was new to us but it went good with old brushed motors.Cool we're getting some old school stuff in boats now too.

Yeah I am old skool myself, give me an rc-10 and I'll run rings around any sct on the market, he he he he he.

Ok, now were getting somewhere on the Ski Tiger !!!. I stripped the hull and started sanding and cleaning the inside out. I worked from 100 grit down to 320 grit on the hull. I sprayed a cloth down with windex and wiped her down, and the colors jumped out at me.

I think the outside of the hull looks pretty sick as it is now. The way the colors blended and feathered together, makes it look like the hull is made of "real flames" it's pretty wicked !!. I am tempted on throwing several coats o clear on her and calling the color done. I couldn't recreate flames like this on my best day. Now the windshield needs masked and painted in.

I stripped the hull & made a sweet discovery. I don't think its stock size, but its got a 1/4" flex in her. At first I thought the hardware and prop were composite. After wire brushing and sanding down, it turns out they weren't. The hardware is brushed aluminum from Marine Specialties.
The prop is a copper beryllium Prather 220 1.72" w/ 2.6 pitch

If your wondering, the hull is 25" x 8 1/2"

Time to get some lexan for the top and work on the inside.

I seem to recall a rather large shaft on it stock.I did help build it.Boy that was long ago.
It does look prity funky like that.I wonder what a little airbrush work on top would turnout like?

Hey everybody, Yep I am back on this build !

I just got some parts in today, courtesy of Tanzi411, Thanks man I appreciate it !!.

I got a mock up going on before the inside gets foamed and coated. I am going to use this adjustable motor mount with the Feiago 9T 2017kv on it. I'll either run this off a 120 or 45 amp esc. I'll run this on my tactic system foe now too.

The nimh battery is to show you battery placement, I'll end up using a 3S 3300 mah for now. I have the aluminum marine specialties hardware and Prather 220 prop mocked up as well. It's time to start on the inside, now that all the mechanical and electrics are in place. Its bodywork time !!

Pre paint prep

Alright, now that we got our OSE back, here we go. I got the motor mount epoxied down with Gorilla epoxy, so shes set in stone. Got her all taped and liquid masked off too. Let the paint begin.

Early paint stage

I had a lil' trouble with paint not sticking to the hull, and coming off on the painters tape. Bad habits I guess, I was using rc body paint like I use on the car and truck bodies. I switched to Krylon and not a problem. I got the inside layered in nickel, as well as the sides of the hull. I got the center and back done in black.

I still have a lil' work to do on the niclel on the sides of the hull, but the black is done. I am going to sand off and re tape the windows, think I'll shoot those in nickel after their reworked.

Once that's done, its time to peel all the masking and tape, for 3-4 clear coats, before assembly. Then I can make the lexan hatch.

Hey everybody,

I changed up the paint and got it finished up yesterday. The sides of the hull and windows have been finished in matte aluminum. It had 24 hrs to dry, then I sprayed 3 layers of clear coat over the hull and OSE decals.

The clear really made the decals and colors up top "pop". Now the boat looks wet even when outta the water.
I pulled all the tape and liquid mask off the adjustable motor mount, motor and stuff tube. They look pretty good against the nickel and clear coat I sprayed on the inside as well.

I know it's overkill, but for know I'll use the turbojet 120 amp esc, and turnigy 2S 6000mah battery. I soldered on 4.5mm bullet connectors for a rock solid connection. I know It's a cheap esc, but it's new and the price was right. After all I am only looking for low to mid 30's with the Prather 220 and Feiago 9XL. I am not interested in pushing this hull any faster than that.

It's time to make a lexan hatch and finish final assembly.
