df29 build, with a side of phil thomas stealth

Hi fellas, just some pics of the builds going on in the basement.

    I am doing a df29 - t180, leopard 4074-2200kv, (2) 4s 5000mah 40c in parallel with all speedmaster hardware.

Still have lots to do but coming along.

Next up is a phil thomas stealth - t180, leopard 4082-2200kv, (2) 4s 5000mah 40c in parallel with a mix of hardware, proboat rudder, miss vegas strut, grim black turn fin and h.d. mount.

Lots left to do on this one.

I will update as I can and add better pics as these were quickly taken with my phone.

    Thanks
    Fred

Get a different turn gin for the Stealth. I folded the same one in half on my stealth.

Thanks Rum, I was hoping someone would chime in about that. I want a virgina craftsman, but I don't want to wait that long.

If you have seen the one shooter made (I think he has a pic of it in his build thread) I am going to make one like his.

Thick enough, and so far, seems to work very well. His PT runs really, really well.

I agree with Rumdog. I was using the black heavy duty Grim fin also. My boat has been handling a little different lately and sure enough the fin is starting to bend.

Mike Hughes makes awesome fins of cnc'd 7075 aluminum. They are Beautiful!! Give him a shout, you should not have to wait very long at all.

I never ended up trying the upgraded black fin, but the original UL-1 fin folded over on me after only one run.

Here's what I'm running now. It's overkill, but I'm only losing 2mph verse NO fin. I wonder what Mike and Tony are running?

Well, I don't know but, I use this email. [email protected]

He will respond to that address. They were $25 each and worth it 4-shure!! My whip 20 rode like a hydrofoil after and never lost speed in the corners.

Wow. He already responded. Payment sent. Wham bam done. I can’t wait to get it and finish these builds. Its just hard to find time with the little ones, a big honey do list and overtime at work.

A few updates to the df29 portion of the build. I just need to add the pool noodles to the hull and hatch, change my batteries to 5.5m bullets, baloon the receiver and get my props ready.

Well, had the maiden voyage last night. Stupid fast....scary fast.... was chine walking at full speed. Stuffed it on the start of the 4th lap.

Hatch caved a bit and flooded, everything still works except the receiver. I have lots of those so no problem there.

I ordered carbon fiber cloth and zpoxy kit from kintec as the hatch needs a small rebuild.

I was told earlier that a shorter stinger is the way to go on these hulls, will that help reduce or eliminate the chine walking at all?

I am also considering shortening and rounding (the bottom leading edge) of the rudder a bit….do you think that may help a bit as well?

The cg seemed to be spot on, as she was riding nice and high on the keel.

                        Thanks in advance guys.

Looked great on the water until 'the incident'.

I also ordered the hydro rudder bracket as it is shorter. I am going to cut down my spare strut to 55mm in length and make sure that the leading edege of the rudder lines up with the drive dog for the prop.

It currently does now, but it is long (stock)

I am also going to play with the cg a bit and if necessary throw a little negative angle at the stinger if all else fails.

But I will be doing this one change at a time to check the results.

Hopefully we will have practice again next wednesday and I can try these out.
