    Kyosho Jet Viper

Been out of the RC scene for a while so i'm not used to this brushless and lipo crap

after watching the nqd sickly powerful video -----> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOdSAX0gH5k

ive decided i want to do that but on a bigger scale

i want a brushless motor, jet drive with reverse and lipos

since i allready have a kyosho viper i looked for one and got another on ebay for 15 pounds delivered, thats around 25 dollars!

its just the right size for me as ive got a mini v and wanted something just a bit bigger

i have absolutely no clue which motor to go for, what ill need to go with it and whats a good battery for it.

    any help would be great

I am 99% sure that video is sped up, so don't expect those results unless you have a video camera and windows movie maker. The boat defies physics a few times, and the waves move so fast they look like they are made of redbull.

boat arrived yesterday and looks to be not bad for possibly a 15 year old hull.

went to the model shop today and bought an overlander thumper 3536 1450kv motor and a 40amp speed controller. not as big as i planned on but itll get me on the brushless route. the lipos were out of stock so ill try it on a nicd to start with.

cant wait until the weekend. i'm going to try it shaft driven at first until i get the electrics working. should be able to get the motor mounted.

ive also ordered a UJ to connect the motor onto the shaft and a water cooling jacket for the speed controller

well some of the parts arrived really quickly so i drove to the model shop and bought a 3s lipo 5000mah with a 25c discharge and a ripmax charger.

its a programmable balance charger but i have no idea what rate i should be charging and for how long.

i gave it a go anyway after i fitted the motor and electrics.

first run was not so great. i think the prop is too close to the boat for choppy weather and its causing the boat to cavitate a lot!!!

its also a bitch to steer, steering trim is so far over when you let off the throttle the boat does a sharp turn!!!

i then tried the next day first run was a bit short, and the run after this video it cavitated a bit too much and blew the universal joint to pieces.......DOH!

cant wait for the twin rudder and new prop to arrive. its badly needed!

im too impatient for the jet drive so im going to build a separate jet boat as this one is getting faster.....a lot faster

A couple of new props arrived. the 2 blade fitted the original shaft ok but wasnt very well centered. i got a new 4mm shaft from the shop with a bit more length and what a difference!!!

Original prop at the top, x438 2 blade in the middle and x435 3 blade on the bottom

I had to try the 3 blader first. Unfortunately i didnt think about the amps this would create!

3s with a 1450kv motor probably draws a bit more than the 40amps my esc could provide.

its the first time ive had a boat stuck on full throttle, flipped and sank all in one go!!!

wish i had a video of it, it was quite a scene

have also removed the original stickers which were wrecked.

i used cream bathroom cleaner and it did a tremendous job, ideal for plastic boats

            before after

also put some flags over the now super white boat

just need to find some blue sponsor decals to go with it

                doh!

this week the postman brought some team infinity allen drivers

a nice prop nut and dog drive for the 4mm shaft and the twin rudder set up

however the twin rudder should have came with a warning. you really should measure the boat before you order this

too much youtube makes you do silly things

after watching this i wanted whats called a Dockstavarvet combat boat 90 or cb90

the viper really pissed me off by blowing its motor and getting stuck out on the water so out came the hacksaw!!!

nearly ready to rip out the shaft drive.

just waiting on the new turnigy outrunner so i can install the entire drive system in one go

i am also going to make some bulkheads out of perspex to stiffen the hull and deck up a bit.

the old deck is so badly twisted that there is half an inch gap when the lid is on.

hopefully ill be able to make it look a bit like a CB90!
