    24" rigger My first build

I'm close to finishing this rigger. I have a sv27 nitro and wanted a brushless boat, so I decided on this. Its my first build and it will be used just for fun. Anyways here's the setup.

    3s1p 5000mah gens ace lipo
    swordfish 120 esc
    faigao 540s 12s 2958kv
    dx3s/m200 marine reciever
    z21 strut
sv flexshaft and 3 blade prop (I think its 37mm? will this work?)
    ose turnfin, futaba 3003 servo

It looks very close coupled, you may want a longer tub on it or at least to move the sponson boom supports forward as far as you can on the existing tub, Also its hard to tell from oblique photos and I may be off the mark here but it looks like there is very little if any angle of attack on the sponsons, if so it will run very wet and suck amps like a dyson, somewhere around 5 degrees angle of attack will run well.

I see what you mean on the angle of attack, I'll have to change that..i'll just move the tubes down in the back of the boat. I would have to rebuild the tub to move them more forward, and I wouldnt like to do that. Is there a disadvantage of having them back further? I figured they would support the weight of the battery a little better and I didnt want the rear to be underwater.. thanks for the reply

The distance between the rear of the sponsons and the prop (or the ski if it has one) is effectively the length of the boat when it is on plane, the longer that is the more stable it will be in a straight line and the less effected by waves it will be. It looks like there is about 14" between sponson rear and ski on yours which gives it the stability of a mini but with the size, weight and power of a full on 2 cell boat, which is not the ideal combination. Do you have room to use your front sponson mount to mount your rear sponson tube then add another one up front? From the photos it looks like you probably don't quite have the room, so give it a go the length that it is and if you have problems with longitudinal stability consider adding a pair of plates either side of the nose like the Mr Krabs so you can move your sponsons 1 mount forwards.

I dont have enough room to move them.. I would have to add a plate..but I'd rather build a new hull if I had to do that. I figured that the middle of the sponson where it steps up would be the front of where it planes out. That would give me about 18 inches to the back of the ski and prop. If it is the rear of the sponson, then it is only 10 inches which might be a bit short.

Is this where it planes? aka the length of the boat?

A little update, I changed the angle of attack to 5 degrees, I also ordered a 3594kv motor with 5mm shaft, it planes and runs pretty quick, and decently straight! I have to get used to only turning right because it doesnt go left real well..lol I used a stock sv27 nitro prop (3 blade, i think 37mm?) and it was decently warm after about 5 mins. Then I switched to a 40x53 i believe it is, and it was really warm after a lap and was hopping on the water. (prob my strut angle or prop). So now off to my local hobbyshop to see if they have something alot smaller since it planes fairly quickly. Ill try to get updated pics and a video within a few days..
