So she had her maiden voyages today. Some minor issues, but a raging success overall! We were running a 2-lap event (just stopwatches, nothing too fancy), so my first ever run was a timed run. So much for doing a couple of laps and bringing her in...... Well, she just flew! Steering is eerily fast, but never bucked or anything, just ran as hard as I could drive. The first run was pretty conservative, gave the buoys a wide berth, but still managed a good time (19 something seconds, 2 laps @ about 220m/lap).

When it came in, I could se that the booms had slid across in one drirection, so I need to nip the collars up tighter. I also lost my nice H5 prop as it came in - the thrust must have kept it on the shaft under power, but when I backed off it dropped off

Temps were fine in the first run so I bolted my H7 on, turned the steering throw down a bit and tried again. Whoa, the H7 is awesome! She was noticeably faster but still handled brilliantly. Went a little closer to the buoys this time and managed an 18.48s for the 2 laps (only 0.2s off the 6 cell hydro record). So I'm very happy. Next tweak is to bump the timing up on the ESC (it's set at low, which is about 5 degrees on the Etti, I prefer about 12-15 on the 1Y). Then I"ll start grovelling for help on props

I have a video of the first run, so I'll upload that in a few hours. My little picklefork in the background managed 25.00s for the 2 laps, which is a new class record too!

Scott, that was the best test run I have seen. Very well done. Shame about the prop. Can't wait to have a race. Steve

The rear boom is located much farther back than the original JAE design...any particular reason?

            Insaniac,

The original JAE FE plans had the booms in this position. Zippkits chose to keep the booms in the same position as the nitro version for their kits. Both seem to work well, but I like having the ESC between the motor and battery, so I prefer this boom location.

              Pete,

Eric Bourlet makes them, and I got mine from this thread - http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...JAE&highlight=

He recently indicated to me that he'll make some soon, so you might want to contact him.

I haven't water cooled the motor yet, my experience running a 1515/1Y in my Whiplash indicated it's not really needed. Since this boat is lighter, it should be fine, but I'll see how it goes.

A Hitec 225MG servo and Hyperion 805 mah LiFe RX pack went in the back with the Futaba RX. There's not much room to play with, so the RX switch and aerial will mount on the rear hatch.
Was wondering how the non-water cooling option worked out. Been thinking about doing the same on an ARC 36-63-1 2080Kv motor...

Eric...planning on making any more fiberglass tubs?

Motor runs fine with no cooling swinging an H7. I don't plan on adding a cooler anytime soon.
