    Keith's Vortex 24 build

I picked this hull up in a trade a while back. I've never really had interest in hydros for the most part. They look cool but they aren't really the best boats for sport running (for me anyway). I decided to build this one just for something different. It may end up in the swap shop, or I might keep it...not sure yet.

I have a 3674 1900kv motor on the way for it and the 5s batteries I run in my EKOS seem to fit in it quite well. I'm not sure what I'm going to do for an ESC yet. Maybe an ICE 100.

So far I just have some carbon fiber laid inside the hull and the strut and rudder mounted. Although the strut/rudder setup is pretty trick looking, I'm not sure if I like the way it looks on this hull. As long as it performs well I will like it enough.

Will it be twin? Hydros usually have offset rudders. unless the props are on either side

No, it will have a single motor/prop. I'm going to try the inline setup and see how it works. If I make a seperate mount for one side of the rudder bracket I can offset it. I think it will run well the way it is though. I'm not going to be racing this, only sport running.
Another issue is the servo linkage. There is really nowhere for it to come through with the rudder inline so I may have to get creative there.
As it sits, I can go ahead and buld everything else, and if I decide to change the rudder placement I can. It shouldn't really relate to the rest of the build with the exception of servo placement, but I will set that up to work with the rudder both ways.

My 22" rips pretty good on 4s with a cheap 1700kv outrunner/90 amp SK, 5s is a bit much for these tiny hulls, but heck i ran mine on 6s once, lol

You think so? My 5s are only 3300mah, so a total of 6600mah...I could always go with lower mah if I had to.
I plan on running this with a smallish prop. I'm far from an expert on hydros but I would think that turning a smaller prop a bit faster would be the way to go (vs. a lower RPM setup with a bigger prop).

It's got to be fast. It just doesn't make sense to me that the boat with the least amount of drag would be the slowest in my fleet. If it can't at least keep up with my little mono it has no business being on the other end of my tx.

Lol, yeah mine does seem to stay planted better with a smaller prop and thus can go faster, but really 5s 6500mah is huge for these! I run a single 4s 4500mah in mine and an m440 prop and she rips pretty good, great for ovals will be interested to see how your center mount rudder works for you, you are running a turn fin off one of the sponsons right?

Ive had multiple setups in mine, the one now is the most reliable, can just pull full trigger and let it rip lap after lap its great. i had a vilenion vxl3s esc and 3500kv motor in it with a 35mm prop on 3s1p 5000mah at one point and it was just nuts! went crazy fast but was going thru motor bearings fast!

Heres a video of mine, i have since sold the boat, then had it returned and refunded due to shipping damage which i have now fixed and no fins anymore, i liek it way better now those stupid fins always leaked anyways!

I find 40mph with this feels more like 60 with a 32" cat.

Not yet. I've got too many project going right now and this one has been down towards the bottom of the list. I should find some time for it sometime later next week.

                        Cool.
Any more thoughts on the hardware? I bought the adjustable arm set from Ben and was going to use it on a 26" mono but I like the idea of a hydro.
