    Budget mono build (DF26 knockoff)

This all started with me finding a good deal on a complete SV27 minus the hull, and spiraled from there. I hadn't planned on building anything new this year, but I just couldn't help myself.

Running hardware is a mix of SV27 bits and other parts. Hull is an HOR DF knockoff. After playing around with the layout of parts, I decided to go with 1/8" ply rails in this one. I know they aren't necessary for strength, but it gave me a very convenient place to mount all the electronics and keep a nice tidy layout.

Holes are drilled for the trim tabs, but they aren't mounted in the pictures. Once I get everything solidly mounted on the inside it'll be stripped back down for paint.

    Rough cut rails:

    VERY rough placement of electronics:

With everything mocked in I get a good range of adjustment with the batteries to get the CG way fore/aft of the 30% mark.

Total cost (minus the $40 UPS charged for brokerage) is under $200 with everything so far.

Hoping to finish up the rails in the next day or so (need some 1/4" basswood to support the platforms for the electronics) and get the boat torn down to start on paint on the next dry day.

I've got a bunch of props from my 3.5cc mono to try out, but does anyone have suggestions on where to start with it? I have as small as an x438 up to an x447 with a couple three blades in there too (x437/3 and x440/3 IIRC). I've heard good things about the M445 on an SV27, so I would think it should be ok on the same motor/esc/batteries in a slightly smaller hull?

Sure is! Got a bit more done... I found some 1/8" basswood which is plenty strong to hold an ESC and RX tray. Still need some 1/4" to make the rest of the servo mount but I have the rails mostly finished up:

The RX is tucked away under the rear deck, but is easily accessible with the servo out.

Awesome job bro, love the rails!
great place to put your SV hardware, and the M445 should make this one really boogie!

Thanks, that's what I'm hoping for!

HOR forgot to put the cooling jacket in with the order, I might just have to order one from OSE along with an m445.

Hoping I can get interior finished up tomorrow, then get it torn apart for primer on Tuesday (supposed to be warm and dry!).

Had to move the rudder over about 1/4" to the right, the location shown before put the bracket and the trim tab adjustment screw in the exact same place. Better that I found it now before paint at least!

Hoping to get rails/mounts finished up tonight and epoxied into the hull as well, then tear it down for prep/paint! I think I have the colour scheme picked out, just have to spray a small test piece to see how it looks together first. It'll be different, but I think it'll look good.

Getting closer now, the rails and electronic mounting is all sorted out and epoxied into the hull.

The to-do list is getting very close to finished, as it stands now it looks like this:

              1) Get longer bolts for the rudder bracket, get it attached, and drill the hole for the rudder linkage.

              2) Drill hole for cooling exit.

              3) Figure out hold down strap for batteries (can wait till after paint).

              4) Strip down, prime, sand, paint, clear, assemble and enjoy :D

Have you considered keeping it shiny white and adding some cool graphics?

                  Hell no :D

I was trying to come up with an elaborate idea to airbrush on it, but everything I could think of didn't have good visibility on the water, so I'm going with something more visible but still unique.

Totally finished it up tonight, and it's now apart again awaiting primer and paint!

It was kinda painful drilling the antenna hole because I've been going back and forth between running the SV27 tx/rx, or my HK 2.4ghz one but in the end I decided I would run an external antenna in either case so it needed the hole.

Hopefully I can get some primer on it tomorrow and start on the base coat over the weekend.

I've been running them in my 1/10th scale stadium truck and they don't even get warm at all. I get 20 minutes of run time on about 2000-2200mah. I know they'll get much more of a workout in the boat, but they should be good for it.

I'm looking at some other ones though because these won't fit in my trucks if I put velcro on them, and I haven't come up with a nice way of holding them down without velcro. Hold down straps will work, but won't give me as much freedom to shift the packs to adjust CG. I've got room to slide the packs the full length of the hatch opening, which is a huge CG range.
