Hatch tape? Will it peel clear coat?

I love my genesis finish, I'm thinking of using hatch or hockey tape for extra water protection. I don't want the clear to peel like I think I have read. Will hatch or hockey tape peel the clear coat?

Yes, it may pull it up especially if the clear is not very well adhered to the color coats. There are several things you can do. First, put car wax on the area the tape will contact. It sounds counterintuitive but the tape sticks well and usually won't pull up the paint. Or try using vinyl electrical tape, the quality 3M brand. It is less sticky than hockey tape and is even reusable.

A friend who paints cars showed me a trick. Run the tape across your jeans to make it less sticky before applying.
