Air cooled EKOS

Well since I just received the stuff for the build after this one, I suppose I should try and get going on it.

This one is a little different, as the hull will be completely dry. The motors and escs will both be air cooled. It should keep the hull nice and clean and simplify things.

Power and hardware plans are:

* Twin suppo 3126 outrunners (2200kv)

* Twin castle ICE 100 escs

* 4s1p per motor (5000mah 46/92C)

* Twin .150" flex (.187" shafts)

* Twin 4mm stingers drilled out to accept .187" shafts

* Twin x442 L/R props

The hull will be strengthened with carbon fiber. Motor mounts, servo mount will all be made from carbon fiber as well.
I also have a pair of 3126 outrunners in a 1300kv wind, so I could swap them out for more speed if I wanted and run the same batteries in a 8s configuration. The ICE escs are good to 8s!

Nice! I run two of those castle 100's with 880kv T600's on 8s so they should hold up very nicely in there! I am very interested to see how those motors work on a little higher voltage.

Keith, since the mounts aren't water cooled, you might want to consider adding vent holes to match the motor. Good choice with Carbon Fiber, as it will not transfer any heat to the hull and lessens the chance of epoxy fatigue from overheating.

The two smaller holes are mount holes, the other four match up with the holes on the outrunner.
They look a little small in the pic...maybe the angle?

My thoughts were the same as yours. Not only will these provide an air inlet that would be normally blocked off to cool the motor, but they should allow the outrunners to move some air around the hull.

The motors were 1600kv 500size heli Outrunners , now replaced with 1800+kv Typhoons
Esc are 100A Ebay Mystery type. Now water cooled to increase their lifespan.

All in all Air-Cool in a Cat can and does work as long as you do not over stress the components. Stay tame and all will be fine.

You might want to lay some carbon behind that window. A good hard submerge can knock those right out and destroy your electronics.

I've been trying to come up with a clever way to deal with that since I got the hull. I like the looks of the clear windshield but I havent came up with a cool way to keep it.

Thanks for the info Simon. Im running 2200kv on 4s with x442s to start. It should move pretty nicely but I would consider that "tame" as a twin. Depending on the results I have with that setup, I may bump it up a bit.

Ya that looks real nice!! or should i say ICE ICE baby!! hahaha i really like the looks of the CF, i'd like to give it a try my next build, how does it lay compared to FG?? is there a special resin to use or whats the deal? i'm totally clueless on CF installation.

Got batteries in today! 2x5s 3300mah for 6600 total mah. They fit like they are made for the hull. I also made a gloss carbon fiber plate that the escs are mounted to and solderd up the 5.5mm bullets on the motors and escs.
The flash does weird things in these pics and they don't really do the boat justice. It looks a lot nicer in person.
