New idea that might be of intrest "twinline"

This is an idea I have had for a reeaallyyy long time but with school have not had a chance to try it out untill now. One shaft and two motors! This will be part of the future power system for one of my boats (have not decided which one). All I did was order a 6mm shaft from mcmaster and put it through where the stock ones were. Really easy!

I think this would be really good in monos or if someone wants to build a quad cat that looks scale that still has 2 outdrives.

Let me know what you guys think!

Sorry for for the spelling error in the title!

I dont understand...thats one shaft going through both motors???

If it is, I like it. I have considered teh scorpion "s" series motors that have a shaft out both ends for my road cars but the kv is always a little low in the higher watt motors. I would be very interested in something like this. I have used outrunners in the past as a direct replacement for motor/trasmission/spur gear in nitro cars. If thats not clear, I basically hook both fron tand rear driveshafts directly to the motor. No pinion, no spur. I have gotten some RWD cars to go prety fast this way, but the problem with AWD is the lack of higher kv/higher power motors with a shoft out of both ends.

Yupp Keith that is exactly what it is! One shaft and two motors. That sound sweet with the cars! You would have that much less to break and pretty even power to the back wheels.
It would be sweet to use 4 small outrunners and make it 4wd with the motor end being the wheel hub.

        Looks cool.

Make sure you have the motor directions figured out before you plug them both up together. One motor going one way and the second motor going the opposite way... That could bad....

Thanks man! I just was talking about the same thing with my dad! I ran into that problem on my twin gear drive boat.

Yup.. I would check each motor directin seperatly then make a label or something to the esc for direction after you figure it out you. Once you get the direction right just label each esc wire a,b,c then the correct motor wire a,b,c then after you stick everything back together just match the esc/motor wires up a/a, b/b, c/c... I would also make sure when checking directions that you have each motor matched with a certain esc and not to switch them after you test. Just a suggestion of course. Good luck with your project.

Im also curious about timing...it may be necessary to index these so the poles hit at the same exact time...know what I mean?

Yupp! I made sure they are lined up so the tick over at the same time.

And Deisel that is almost exactly what I did on the gear drive boat. Great minds think alike eh?

I tried 3 different esc's on the gear drive boat and they all worked out without a hitch.

Modern day version of the Great Planes Stinger SS! That boat had inline brushed motors & was also called the "Twinline".

Here's a thread on RCU with some pics:
Speed - Electric - GP Stinger SS and AQ Hammer same hull? - I've been out of the hobby for a couple of years, but recently I dug out my old Great Planes Stinger SS. It's an electric deep V with 2 inline motors which runs on two 6 or 7 cell packs. It hasn't seen the water for about 3 years. I went to AquaCraft's website
