well guys I have been working on this and thought I would share what I am doing so the new guys can see that it doesnt have to be all fancy new gear to get started racing. My son will be racing in the novice class this year
Lets start with the hull I got this hull for 40 bucks from the swap shop a while ago and its a good novice starter boat. link to the sale ad I dont have any pics of the boat before we stripped the paint.

now the hull is an older hull and had several coats of paint on it so I stripped it down to see what I was working with and this is what we got. (I had already put 2 layers of fiberglass cloth in the boat when we took the pics but I may switch it out to carbon fiber)

here you can see that I decked the ride surfaces so they are matched I will show a pic of how to do it later.

so not a bad boat it has a few issues but nothing major and to Befu's credit what he thought was a crack in the gel coat wasnt it was just in the paint. (my son stripped the paint from the boat and I think he left it on a bit to long and thats why there is the pitting on the gel coat but its getting a new paint job so its not a big deal.
My next posts will show what I use to fix the gel coat and how I went about hardware for the boat. I will also show how you patch a hole if you want to move something or if you just bought a used boat and are going to be using different hardware.
