    Rigged Insanity Build

Hi folks. Finally got my Insanity a few days ago and have started to put it together. Just a couple of generic questions as this is my first build. I am using a decent 5 minute epoxy so far for the structure. What do you use to seal the inside of the body? I want to keep it from getting wet, incase it does happen. Also, what have people been using on the outside? I realise its a epoxy resin, but what type etc? I haven't had much luck locating anything to do this. Thanks, and I will start posting pictures shortly as it gets moving.

Blado, you can use 30 min. epoxy or west system to seal the inside and outside of your rigger. Just make sure you seal the insides of the tub BEFORE you add the top skin on...makes sealing much easier.

I actually used sanding sealer on the outside of mine (sanding between two coats) and then used spray Kilz over that. The Kilz sticks to and primes the sanding sealer...then you can spot putty and paint.

Let me know if you need any other help.

You can get Kilz spray at any hardware store (get the oil based spray not latex). Remeber, you can also use West Sytems on the inside AND outside if you go the West Systems route.

I bought a quart of the 105 epoxy and a pint of the 205 hardener...also, do yourself a HUGE favor and buy the metering pump set...very accurate dispensing...and the mix will be right!

Here's where I got mine from.... (you may be able to find a place that sells it that is closer to your area)

Noah's boat supply will sell you a small MAS epoxy Repair System. I love MAS, no smell like WEST Systems and as good or better quality!!

          They are in Toronto.

Johnson and I used West System epoxy and there wasnt a hint of any smell from it.You could easily use it in the basement without the ole lady flappin her jaws about stinking the house up.Maybe we used a different kind of it than the rest of you,but this one had no smell at all.

Z Poxy finishing resin is the simplist. Its all I use. Most any hobby store sells it.
Tower Hobbies carries an expansive collection of RC cars, RC airplanes, RC boats, model trains, sot cars, and supplies for all hobbyists.

this is all good info. another tip is not to use 5 min epoxy, use 30 minute. the 5 minute cures so fast it doesnt have time to penitrate the wood as well. it is a pain because you have to clamp everything and let it sit but i guarantee it will be stronger..

also on the inside of the tub use the blow drier trick. just a little heat makes the epoxy or resin flow smooth. i use 4:1 from fiberglass hawaii (similar to west systems only i have a 5 gallon bucket of it). brush it on, blow dry it (low heat just long enough to make it flow) nd then use a dry brush to remove the excess. blow dry again, dry brush again. it comes out clean and smooth. also when building riggers i like to use polyester surfboard sanding resin on the outside. it sands easy. brush it on and use a squeege to wipe off the excess and brush the edges smooth. then sand, resin again, sand, primer, sand, primer, sand, paint, sand, paint....... wood riggers are alot of sanding...... do your self a favor and use a small vibrating sander with 150 then 220 grit on the flat surfaces...

Well its just about done now. I used the West Systems to coat every part. Sanded using 240, 320 and 400 for that final coat. I did end up using a little 2K automotive spot filler and coated that with the epoxy also. It gets painted in a few days and should hit the water for it test run this weekend. I will post some pictures shortly when its painted. Thanks to everyone for the help. I needed it!
