proboat decoy duck for recovery boat

is anyone using the proboat decoy duck as a recovery boat? i just ordered one to use as my recovery boat due to the small size. i can put it in a toolbox and leave it in my truck so i have it with me all the time. they say it is 13" x 6.5" but it looks alot smaller than that in the hand

i figure if it can tow a dead duck it should be able to tow a rc boat. i plan on using a float similar to what i have on my fishing pole towed behind the duck. just wondering if anyone has tried it and what kind of results they had...

    Retrieval Gaff

I'm not using one of these (yet)) but the pic you posted is of the retrieval gaff which comes with and is towed behind the decoy duck. It has 3 hooks designed to catch ducks, boats, weeds, whatever it will hook onto. The decoy itself is bigger.

ok, ran the duck this morning for the maiden voyage. just playing around as i didn't bring any other boats to the pond. we will be going later today to test it on some upside down boats (the pond is only about 5 blocks away).

first impresions were 4 out of 5. ran it right out of the box with nothing but the recomended 4aa batteries, charged the nicad pack and a couple drops of oil on the motor and shaft. it was for sure what i expected. i drove it for about 5 minutes pulling in palm frawns and 2-3ft (up to about 1" diameter) branches. the pond was dead calm and covered with small leaves and branches as the tide was just switching. everything was good but it did take on about 4 tbl spoons of water.

2nd run was about 2 minutes and it was slow, the pick-up was pluged about 70% after running it in the shallow dirty water. it did make it bach to shore but the steering wasnt good at all and it was at a snails pace. cleared the screen and managed to pull in a shopping bag full of water no paoblem. after about 4 more minutes there was no water in it at all.

maiden voyage impresion was that this will be a great rescue boat for me. it could use a little more pulling power (which i am sure it will get knowing me). the reverse is useless and the gaff worked pretty good. it steers like you would expect from a jet, on the gas only. i am confident in saying when i bring it out later today it will inspire at least one of the other members to purchase one.

i have to give proboat a little credit on this one. i dont care for proboats one bit, but i have found myself with 2 of them over the last month (the geico was free but i will have a few bucks into it by the time it is done. just layed the cf yesterday and have a leapord and t180 + speedmaster hardware waiting to get mounted in it).

ok brought it to the pond again... we couldnt get a boat to blow over for the life of us. one time a geigo went over once and it was about 3 feet from the beach. it drifted ashore before i could get the duck....
i did a fake tow in once and it worked great. as i thought ira is ordering one also... it ran good and stayed dry....

I'm really glad to hear all of this as I'm tired of waiting for the wind. The other day I tried pushing in my downed FASTech with my Mini-C and ended up flipping over the Mini-C. Big fat rescue fail, now I have two stranded boats. That was a bad day for boating.

So I ordered one of those "baby duck gaffs" to pull with my Mini-C for downed boats in the future. I just got it in today and boy am I excited to try it out. Super duper AWESOME. Thanks for the reveiw.

We bought one and works well but it's very easy to break the prop housing turn pins. Part that alowes the duck to turn. Think it was 25 bucks to repair

I have 2 of em... One is stock, the kids love it in the pool, and decent recovery boat.... Stays dry, but the esc is a pain since it has to be reset every time... It was changed over... The other duck is being made brushless.... It will almost plane with the jet, but it's only a matter or time before the drive is killed.... We'll see.... It was bought because of a neighbor who issued a challenge with his mini rio...... It might get a prop if it doesn't work out with the jet.....
