    Custom 54" cat twin

This is a total build starting from mold which I borrowed from a friend. It is a cat approx. 138x36 cm, 54"x 14.1".

building boats or cowls from molds is by far my favourite part of rc boats.
Mold was coated with PVA by spray (light coats) and then 2 passes with wax on top of it, gel coat with vinylester (2x50gr glass, 1x160gr glass, 1x160 gr carbon aramid). This was my first one from this mold and had many "tricks", so there are some minor imperfections on the inside which are easy to deal with.
For comparison you can see the 34" sprintcat......looking very small!!

Thanks, I will post some pics when I finish it, due to the size of the boat and so many steps I had some areas where the final carbon-aramid was not sticking well. Now I am repairing these areas and apply new cloth on top

You wax hull several times THEN spray your PVA on it.

either way it works, have tried both. this mold was wet sanded with 2000 paper, polished with polishing "cream", then 3-4 light PVA coats with spray, then 2 passes with wax. The result is very good.

also first waxing and then PVA is possible, but the PVA may not adhere well to the surface because of the wax (may create runs and sags)

I was just mentioning how it is usually done. Yes, the PVA has to have several very light coats. Surprised it layed up because the PVA gives it something to adhere so the epoxy can be spread. I usually put the first coat of epoxy on...even two coats then wait until not hardly tacky then lay my first FG layer on using something like 1/2 oz or 3/4 then go up from there with some 4-6.

                    It is looking excellent!

Yes, the first one had some imperfections on the inside and repaired them but at the end I was not happy with the look. therefore I made another one which came out quite nice. the weight of the bottom part is 1.7 kgr which is quite good

Thanks, the carbon kevlar 180gr is really strong and light, but very difficult to handle it, needs a lot of effort and tricks to stick to the corners
