Mini/micro V-hull build help

I am considering picking up one of these hulls to build and fool around with this winter:

My question is, would this be an appropriate setup for the running hardware (used with the Octura .098" flex cable and 1/8" prop shaft):

i will tell you, this one is hard to beat. they run great right out of the box. there is a little issue with the esc on some but a turnigy 35 or 60 marine solves that. they are rtr for $129

Definitely looks similar to what I'd want to build, and tempting. I really like building the things, for me I get as much enjoyment from building and wrenching as I do driving (I'm an RC car guy, this would be first boat, so maybe it's a bad idea to do it myself?). But it is tough when those RTR are so cheap.

Between $130 for the boat, $38 for shipping, and then possibly another $30-70 for a better ESC do you think I could build something myself for similar cost? I don't mind spending a little more, especially if I can pick the pieces myself and have the enjoyment of building.
