AC 37" mono build, advice needed please

This site is great, I have been looking for info on turning my AC Model Boat, Wave Slave 37" mono, into a stupid fast electric. I'm not sure on what size motor I will need or what's the best way to feed it (ie) low kv and high cell count OR high kv and low cell count. I don't mind if there is a little too much power and speed but I don't want to spend an arm and leg, big brother 40" blast cat and 45" Razor need parts too

Does HK carry any decent motors? I have seen some nice boats running the Scorpion for outrunners and the leopard inrunner's, which are better and do you think anything at HK would be the equivelent.

What about the 120A marine esc that HK carries, would that be big enough for this project or would I need bigger. Is a twin set up worth it on a boat this small or is it best to just use a single drive.

Any info would be a great help, here is a picture of the the boat.

Is that an O.S. 21 on there? Looks to be running good! I have an AC Lazer 40 with a K&B 7.5 SS that I just finished.

I've got the same hull partially finished with a K&B 7.5cc inboard in it :D

As for your build, are you wanting inboard or outboard? I would suggest inboard, and a single drive. You'll want a bigger motor since it is a pretty big hull. It would probably be decently quick with a leopard 4074, but it wouldn't be ballistic.

I'm not sure how much speed the hull will handle before it gets too fligthty though, that's why my 7.5cc version is on hold indefinitely.
Light travels faster than sound, so people may appear to be bright until you hear them speak.

Yes, that's the OS .21 outboard, it was a great little unit. I parted mine down because I heard they were being discontinued...... bad info, I wish I still had it. That picture was taken at least 8 years ago lol, wow how the years fly by.

I've got 2 AC boats (soon to be 3) & can say that while they are not the lightest boats ever made, they are very strong & well put together.
If the boat is all ready to go minus the motor, pick up another outboard & call it a day. Seems that there are some good deals on smaller, lighter boats meant for electric from the start.

LOL yes Andy said it would be quite the handful when I was asking him about the same thing years back. It is a bigger boat but it seems to be light, getting airborn wasn't that hard with the .21 and some small waves. We have a few spots to run them, the lake is usualy rough but the ponds are pretty smooth, I will be running it in the lake quite a bit though, we only go to the ponds with the gassers.

The pond, plug your ears if you don't like gas lol, both boats are my buddy's.

Why not a $75 1717 castle? That would push it very well! And reasonable cost too with the sale... Actually rumdog had a couple for sale in the swap shop for a song with ose coolers.... I have two 1717's already but his are so cheap almost makes me want two more...lmao.... Anyway a 1717 on 5s2p and turnigy 180 is what I recommend.... IMHO Inboard too... Just don't overprop...

That neu set up looks nice but for my first electric boat, the 1717 looks much closer to the price range, and it comes with a cooler as well. If that OS .21 came with a chrome lined sleeve I would cut the timing and pipe it up, then it would do what I want it to, but the nickle plating doesn't take well to cutting and peels pretty easy. With a little work the cooling head from the OS fits the 6 bolt picco .26, I was planning on an inboard setup for years lol.

I guess the hull would be more heavy then the boats most are useing for electric, hand made and built to last and take the abuse of nitro and gas engines. Andy from AC MB is worth checking out, he sends alot of his boats overseas lol. He lives in Kelowna so there is no shortage of water and that's where his boats were designed. I think the torque of the 1717 will help push the boat nicely, what size cable should I run for a setup like this 3/16?

I just don't understand this fixation on hull weight and "electric layups". With today's FE power we need strong heavy hulls. Most of my boats are nitro hulls, and even then I often have to add lead to keep the boat on the water. Get a strong hull designed for nitro. I have several AC hulls and their glasswork is second to none. Actually they are no heavier than my similar Aeromarine hulls. I have to add 8 ounces to my AC Lightning and it's got spec power....

If you want "stupid fast", go 6S2P with a large BL motor with a Kv around 1500. A 120 amp ESC will not get you going 60 mph, you'll need closer to 200 amps for that. A proven setup in similar hulls is the 1527/1Y, 6S2P/10,000 mAh, 180+ amp ESC, 3/16" cable and an x455 prop. Speeds around 60 and a winner on the race course. For longer run times, prop down to an x450.

Try to approximate that setup and you should be happy. The Scorpion motors are good outrunners but will not come close to the above setup in speed or reliability.
