Need help with shockwave 26 bl build

I am looking for ideas and help for this project. I currently have a shockwave 26 bl, the esc started on fire and made the hull nasty, I useds different solvents and basiclly the hull was eatten away in spots. I fixed the hull just to make it to the weekend becasue this might have been the last nice weekend of the year. I gave this hull a coat of paint and it ran very well, I really don't want to replace it right now, in the mean time I had got another new hull cheap. So I was looking to build up this other hull, I wanted to install a rear end like the widow maker but am not suree where to start. I want to put a new esc and motor in, basiclly I want to make a second boat.

One the new hull, I wanted to put flex shaft in so I would assume I would need to put a new tube in to get the right dia. I am going to stiffen up the bottom area just like my current boat before I paint the hull. Orange top, yellow bottom. Here is what my cureent boat is:

I was looking at some different threads and seen people that locked the steering and pot off set steering on, how well has this worked for people? I saw it in the apache 24 area.
