    DF 26 / 32 build suggestions

I'm looking at building up a DF 26 or 32 (or copy, but likely a real one since the price on the hull isn't terrible at all!) over the winter, and am looking for some suggestions on gear.

Is there any value in running an XL size motor in the 26" hull, or does the power give more speed than the hull can handle setup for oval.

Realistically, what speeds will either size handle and still be drivable on less than perfectly still water?

I was tentatively thinking of the 26" hull, 540xl motor around 2000kv (maybe as high as 2300), 120amp esc to be safe (unless I need more?) speedmaster stinger and rudder, and whatever trim tabs and turn fin that look right. I plan to run it on 5000mah 40c 2s in series.

I was looking at the knockoffs, but it looks like if all I want from the package is the hull/hardware it's cheaper to just buy the hull and hardware separately and build it myself.

Ideally I'd like it to be in the speed and handling range of a 3.5cc v/mono, but I wouldn't complain if it was faster :D

Am I in the right ballpark at all, or way off target? Any suggestions and input would be greatly appreciated!

Here's the basic parts list for now... anyone see any red flags?

Think this on 4s will get me into the 50's?

I have a knock off- currently rebuilding it.

I would skip the trim tabs- not needed. Leave room and get them later if needed- but doubtful.

I ran a 380 XL 2989kV on 3S and it flies pretty good. Im upgrading to be able to run 540 also. I have a 3660 3000kV. I run the 120A ESC after frying an 60 amp. Just for security and peace of mind.

Not sure on the hardware. Mine has the cheap stinger (shorter version, 4mm shaft).

^ Are you staying with 3s, or running 3000kv on 4s?

Staying with it for now. The other motor I bought with 3S intentions.

Next time around I might try 4S.

            Am I unreasonable to want 50mph out of a 25" hull? Am I better off with a 32" and a 40mm motor?

I dont know what mine is doing for sure, can only guess. I can tell you its not 50 though- if it was I would be surprised.

I think you need more RPMs than that setup also. Im still a newb though.

If it was me and the money is available, go for the larger boat and run the 4074 Leopard.

Yes, you will need a 32" hull to start talking 50mph. The 25" hull willl tend to "take off" like a plane at that speed. You might be able to "touch" 50mph in a 26" hull, but it would be very unstable and crash a lot. A 32" hull will do it with some stability.

i know from experience a feigao 8l on 3s with a x437-3 and 120esc will get you verry close to 50. i think it ran 47 to be exact (if i remember correctly). that set-up rips just needs good (30c+) batteries. i have owned about 5 of these hulls and they do run good on 8xl 4s, 1515 1y 4s, 8l 3s, 1512 2s x 2, they will even run great on a ul-1 motor/esc or ammo 2300... i do recomend the trim tabs but true they arent really necessary. by using them you are just fooling the hull into thinking it is about 1" longer

How stable is the 25" in the lower 40's? I like the smaller hull (storage space is at a premium!), but if it won't stay on the water in the 40's, I'll go with the bigger one and shoot for 50's.

when set-up right it is good on semi smooth to smooth water. check into this delta 26" or copy. it is a great all around boat in my eyes. turns wide open and not all over the place. if you use something like the ul-1 motor/esc you will get mid 40's and i am sure you will be happy...

Good to know... I'm thinking a 26" with a 12L might do the trick, unless I find a good deal on a used UL-1 package in the mean time.

Cost with everything except RX, servo, prop, and nuts/bolts is looking around $470(including four 2s batteries) with a real DF hull and Feigao motor which seems reasonable to me. I'm sure I can do better if I keep watching the classified section though!

You can get the Leopard 4074 2000Kv for $59 shipped right now...

I would... but I was told its to much motor for the 26" hull. If you get a slightly larger hull, its a motor to get.

the leapord will work. i ran this hull on a 1515 1y and it was a blast. kind of a handfull at full throtle but proped down to a 438 it was fun. bullet proof with that motor/prop also. temps were about 100
