    HobbyPartz 2040 Motors

    Good news = Not Expensive

    Bad new = Not reliable

I just got a 4800 kv 2040 motor from them and it nearly burned my boat to a crisp !

The wiring between the connectors and the motor case shorted out and I was sure it was going to melt and burn my hull !!!

The good news is, even after this trauma, the Turnigy 35A Brushless Water Cooled and Water Proof ESC survived and continues to work fine !

The 2040 motor I run in my Micro F1 Tunnel Hull is only 2900 kv, but on 2S LiPo it goes quite fast. I would suggest trying the same motor with 3S or 4S LiPos for your SICK rigger.

    I got it at:

He's got a lot of good stuff, motors, motor mounts, cooling stuff, collets, flex drives, turn fins etc.

He marks the packages "toy boat parts" and Canada Customs doesn't ding them.
Last time I order from him, they arrived in 5 business days !

I too am looking at these smaller Inrunners. I currently have a cheapo 28-30 4000kv OR that is not torquey enough for a 430 prop, the 28-35 3850 OR is better.
I am leaning towards IR power again as it is very cramped in the tub and I do not believe the OR has any cooling air anyway.

If I go with one of these 20 or 24mm dia IR motors it will not get water cooling as there realy is no room for it.
I figure if I use a 40 or 45mm long can I will have plenty of power and not actually stress the motor so much and therefore not generate a excessive heat.
That is my theory so far.
I figure for the low price of these cans I can afford to poke a couple in name of research.

I theoretically have room for a 24mm motor with water jacket, but I haven't found a water jacket for them, and with smaller motors I would much prefer a proper jacket to a coil.
Light travels faster than sound, so people may appear to be bright until you hear them speak.

These are some great posts! My problems now are arranging things so they all fit and where to get the rudder and strut.
