Well... I dunked it. Serves me right for using a new set of lipos and forgetting to check the COG. It was a little nose heavy and the tail was walking around a bit...

Video to follow. Mph was unknown as the GPS got slammed and shut off.

Nah, it's all good. I tape it up well each time.

Actually, from looking at it, it looks like I hit a turtle.

I thought that crash was odd being that the boat was sitting nice in the water all the way up until the end.

Here's an interesting problem to have.

With the K51, it shears the prop dog set screw right out of the stainless steel prop dog. I'm going to end up pinning it.

Heh. more power = more broken parts. This law applies too often in my life.

there is something else going on their. i use alot more motor and bigger props than that with standard octura small prop dogs on 3/16 stubs without breaking

I'm using 4mm shafts. They are a bit on the small side. I'm chalking this one up to wear and replaced the set screw/dog and will try again.

ok i am getting close on my "copy cat". i have it all disassembled and will try and get it going this weekend. i am to the point where i have a few set-up questions.
                  1) what is the strut height and angle?
                  2) cog? i know around 30% to start, is that from the back of the sponsons to the tip or from the trandsom to the tip? (where the arrow is?)

I've noticed both of those vary with prop size and lipo weight... w/447 I setup the COG at 8 inches from the bottom of the sponson. The strut is about 2mm down from even with the bracket top with about a degree of downward angle.

Not perfect, I'm still working with it and trying different props, but that should get you in the ball park.

                    heh... copy cat.

OK, set screw busted loose again. But not just on this boat, on another boat with a K51. So, I'm deeming these props too large for a 4mm shaft. 3/16 is 4.76, might be just enough extra material in both the set screw and the shaft. Might have to see if Jeff has a 3/16 step up shaft...

IT IS SUPER EASY TO TAKE THE BUSHING OUT OF THE 4mm one and install a speedmaster 3/16 bushing.

Really? Do tell. I wouldn't mind switching to 3/16.

this is the bushing you need. the smaller end is the same size as the 4mm strut when you take the 2 small bushings out. i used a dril and just spun the bushings out. the large end is 3/16. with a 3/16 drill bit, countersink the bushing into the strut. you only have to drill about 3/16 deep and the bushing slides right in. presto, 3/16 stub shafts fit what used to be a 3mm strut...

Yeah, I recall that from a while back. Just never followed up on it. Seemed more of a repair at the time. It would be a great way to use the 3/16 wires.

Yep, you need to step up and stop using that small stuff. You are pushing some real blade and power. 3/16 all the way.
