Delta Force Sniper 45 - Gas Mono

Sorry Guys... I know it's not FE, but it's still pretty cool...

Just finished up my Delta Force Sniper 45 Gas Mono... Turned out pretty sweet! Can't wait to put it in the water!

Yah... with the addition of a Gizmo Motors GZ-1 kit, Gizmo modded 257 carb, and some other little add-on goodies...

Take a jug and drop by your local small airport. Run 100 octane avgas in that boy and you will not have any future problems with o-rings, etc in the carb being eaten up by the danged mandatory ethanol in our gas! Not only that but the motor will perk up like crazy!

Perhaps... I prefer to run Coleman Camp Fuel with Redline 2-Stroke WaterCraft racing oil... Smells great, and has GREAT power...

These are VERY low compression engines... no need for all that additional Octane. Do like the cleaner race-gas, however, over standard, "regulation laden" pump fuels...

                    Yes!
I cannot tell you how many people diss running Coleman fuel becasue of the low octane rating, but I run it in my Baja 5B and it actually runs better than with regular gas
looks like I will run this in my Rio 51z with Ams

                      Well... it's been awhile...

After my first races with this boat last year, I needed to do something different. The boat would be really loose down the straights, but would bow-steer like crazy in the turns. Just couldn't get it adjusted out of it.

SO, I decided to try something radical. I took the ride pad out of the boat and also trued up the massive hooks that were in the bottom, aft of the strakes.

Got it all back together tonight and it's ready to race. Will give it a go on Sunday at the District 8 race in Lakewood, WA. Our two FE classes (P-Limited OPC and P-Limited Hydro) on Saturday. Gas Mono and Sport .18 Mod (ProBoat Miss Formula, for me) on Sunday...

Nice work on the bottom of the boat Darin. Are you going prepared to round the keel a bit if need be?
                        Good luck with her!

                          Very nice!!

I'm curious about the offset shaft. We do that to counteract torque but yours seems to be offset to the starboard side while normally the offset is to the port side? Does the gas engine rotate the opposite, that is, clockwise? Just curious. I know absolutely nothing about gas boats so please forgive my ignorance. I have eyed the gas boats with envy. There may be one in my future yet!

Great boat! Thanks for sharing with us!

                            Doug,

Thanks... Yes, I'll have my sanding blocks with me. In your experience, do you think it'll need some rounding?

I've never seen a boat with the offset on the port side. The prop rotates CCW, just like an FE boat. With it offset to the right (starboard), it puts more lift on the right of the hull, countering prop torque, which would try to roll the hull to the right. That's how I've always seen it done. I didn't install this hardware, it was on the boat when I got it, but it's consistant with every other Mono I've built in the last several years.

V-Ing the keel is the big experiment here. The Delta Force hulls ride way up out of the water, and the 45" Sniper has a HUGE rounded keel on it, which, in my opinion, makes it unstable at speed. The boat rides way out of the water on the surface, making it more susceptible to surface "irregulatirities". The better handling boats I've seen have V-d keels, that stay in contact with the water, stablizing the boat. Might not be QUITE as fast, but I'll take handling over sheer speed, especially when racing closely with other boats. Thinking that "slicing through" will proove to be better than "riding on top of"... We'll see!
