    Gumby's RICO build

    Hey guys,
Just unwrapped my new rico that i bought from Mcmolinet who packaged it very well.
    29 Rico Fiberglass Hull
    Medium Speed Master Turn Fins
    Speed Master Trim Tabs
Speed Master Adjustable Stinger Drive for 3/16 shaft
Fiegio 1898kv Brushless Motor... I believe its a 9 turn
    Water Cooled Motor Mount
    .187 Prop Shaft

I truthfully dont know much about this hobby and was hoping you guys good give me some tips.
    1) I need to pick out a good rudder
    2) I need a good esc that would work with the motor(im looking for mid 50s and maybe 60)
    3) Can i use my SV27 radio and receiver?
    4) Exactly what are the measurements for installing the rudder.
    5) Is the Servo from my sv27 a good choice

Sorry if its alot to ask for i just dont know much.
    Thanks,
    mike

Looks good, I have a rico29 with the same setup. As for the esc, I've been using an Etti 150 with the 9xl for a while. You could also go with a Hydra 240 if you're going to push it hard. I don't think you will get 55-60, 50 is more realistic with that setup IMO. For the rudder a speedmaster mini rudder or the OSE one of a similar size would work good.

Here is the link to my build

    hope this helps a little

These are great hulls when setup properly. I agree that low 50 is more of a realistic goat on 4s. I would run at least a 150 amp esc and start with a 445 prop. I have a 31" and use the .21 speedmaster rudder but many have been using the mini rudder with good results. My build thread is here somewhere. Good luck with your build!

Looks like the trimtabs are mounted flush with the bottom of the hull ???

Nice color, is that the aeromarine blue they offer? If so, I may change my mind about sticking with white for my next hull (challenger 31")

Just a note about the tabs as Gerwin mentioned, you gonna want to remove those and probably open up the mounting holes to reposition them, looks as though the outer corner on each is hanging below the bottom of the hull. You may already realize that but thought I should offer my 2 cents!

Yeah its the blue. Thanks for the tip about the trim tabs ill re position them. For making a mount for the servo and batteries would you guys suggest balsa wood? Im going to see if i can find a good deal on a esc and try and get a some of the other small parts ordered or maybe see if i can pick them up at OSE in Chelsea. Also another question for drilling holes....i can just use a regular drill bit right?
            thanks,
            mike

No balsa, its way too soft, use liteply, bass wood, or angle aluminum.

Regular drill bit is fine for drilling through the hull, I always start with a tiny bit then work up to the size the holes need to be, this will minimize chiping of the gelcoat and tearing/gouging the fiberglass or carbonfiber.

Before drilling through gelcoat it also helps to tape off the areas before penetrations are made.

As far as for rudder placement. I would suggest 1.5" from center line. That will allow almost all size of props without interference.

Alright awesome thanks for the info about the wood/aluminum.
And for the 1.5' from the center line is that the center of the rudder mount or the rudder itself

Center of your strut and middle of your rudder blade.

Be sure to add more support to the stuffing tube. You'll want it secured to the hull, at least an inch from the motor end. For the tabs, I'd drill out the holes in the tabs, not the hull. Just bump up a couple drill sizes, and you'll have room to move em a bit.

Yeah my plan is to get some strong material and create a structure in their to hold the servo, esc, receiver, and batteries. It will also provide support for the stuffing tube.
And rumdog you mean just drill a bigger hole in the fin so i can put them lower....I looked at alot of the ricos and their fins are same spot i thought i just needed to turn my down?
                          thanks,

Hey would the etti 150 brushless esc with BEC be a good choice for this motor/esc combo.
And also how do i figure out what size bullet connectors i need for my motor wires and esc?
Reason im asking this is because i need to tell them what to bring to the store so i can pick it up.
                            Thanks,
                            Mike

I'd say the etti 150 should be alright but I'd just buy the turnigy 180 instead and it's cheaper. 5.5mm bullets are pretty standard practice these days on both the motor esc and batteries.
