I went back and looked at the graphs and possibly it is because of this. At an average speed of 40mph you are covering a football field field in 3 seconds! So, given that, this is probably about what you would always see on a chart unless you keep the throttle down through the turns.

    40 miles per hour = 211,200 ft/3,600 sec = 58 and 2/3 feet per second

I did run the boat again and I got around 57mph with the m445. I am going to hopefully test out a 447 prop that has had extensive work on it this weekend and I expect that to get me into the 60's pretty well. When I get the data I will publish it here.

I raced mine for the first time today, with great results. The only testing I'd done was the initial two runs at our smaller lake, so I wasn't sure how she'd go on the larger course, and in traffic.

I got 2nd in the first two heats and won the last heat (each heat had 6 boats), and I think I won the class overall for the day. I was up against a few Whiplashes and a H&M Sport 21. I ran an X640 in the first two heats and it was fast, but I didn't get the start. Going the long way around Ash's well sorted Whiplash is difficult! I wanted to smooth the boat out a little though in the chop.

For the last race I put on a Grimracer 40x52 3 blade and got the start and cleared out! It was a bit smoother, but I think there's a bit more speed to be had. I really wanted to try my ABC 1614/3 Chopper, that works so well on my Whiplash, but I left it at home

The best thing is the way the boat handles in traffic, you can cut across other boats' chop without fear of crashing. My Whip is probably a bit faster (and turns harder), but it would have been upside down when I was pestering the leader in the first two races. So thumbs up to Insane!

Next on the agenda will be some testing with the ABC Chopper and an M445.

Your whip is only faster because you hav'nt tuned your FE 30 yet. I am playing with different turn fins to get my FE 30 to turn as good or better than the whip and I believe I have succeded. Try a turn fin from Alan N or even the Jae or the Whip. I'll show some pics when I'm done.

Mark, yes, sill plenty of tuning to do, it's only the second time the boat has hit the water. My Whip took over a year to get it handling the way it does now, so I know I can get the Insane even better. I'd be interested in your turn fin results.

Tony, I saw Dave a few months back, and I'm sure he be stoked the ole Tubby Titan is still rockin!

Anything new on the turn-fin experiment?

Its going very good. Work on the weekend has kept me from testing as much as I like. Now I'm gearing up for the saw event this weekend. I'm sure there will be video taken of my runs.

I seem to get the best overall performance (speed/run-time) from the m445. Did you try the 447 yet?
I tried some of the H-Series props but couldn't get the back end to settle down...too much lift (=hop).

I got my FE30 out for a test run on Saturday and I was very pleased with the performance of the boat. Reading through the posts here was quite helpful in building the boat.

I am running it as an LSH, with UL-1 power, 4s 5000 lipo and a slightly cupped 1445 prop. I still have some tuning, tweaking and prop selection to do since I am getting a bit of rear end hop.

According to the GPS on the second test run it was 48mph.

Looks good ! The 1445 is a lifter prop; I've had good luck with an H-5 and 445 or447 cut down. Try angling the strut a little UP at the back. Did 55.1 with a Shouland-prepped H-5 and T-120 at 15 deg. advance and a fan on the motor - ran kind'a hot !

I'll be getting my boat in a couple weeks and am looking for the better battery setup. Are most runing a 4S1P vs 2S2P? If the 4S1P, is it because it gives better weight distribution/balance?
                            Thanks

Colby, The boat isn't super critical to weight distribution/CG, believe it or not. I've run the spec boat with 2 2S 5000's in series but mostly just one 4S 5000 with the battery front just nosing under the front of the cowl mating piece. That's primarily because all my other setups are P class and use 4S 5000's; that's what I have. Many racers in P-Sport will run a single 4S 5000; just barely enough for a one mile sprint with an agressive prop. I prefer racing with 2 Turnigy Nano 4S 4000's in 2P for more headroom, and the extra weight keeps things glued down better in racewater, particularly because we've been racing in some pretty choppy gasserwater.

I'm running 4s2p in mine as well with hyperion 45c 5000mah packs. I put one 4s pack in the center of the nose and a 2s packs on each side of it. As Tony said, the extra weight helps keep it planted and is also easier on the packs and allows for longer runtime.
