Mean Machin with twin Leopard 4074 & Stingers

This is an experimental project to test a dual 4074 Leopard motor set up with some new Stinger drives. The drives are quite unique and have a double 0-ring internal seal that permits about + and- 8 degrees or up or down angle. The wire drive is 4 mm but it comes with a set of adaptors to use any 3/16" shaft dia prop.

Our testing has shown these motors to put out a pretty continuous 2500 watts as measured by an Eagle Tree set up so it will be interesting to see how a dual set up will power this Mean Machine.

With a dual brushless set-up it is always a hastle to grease the shafts. I made this very easy by using two stainless 1/4x20 bolts to mount a custom dual motor mount I built as shown. Remove the two bolts and the motors, Silicon cooling jackets, shaft adaptor and square drive flex shaft comes out as a single unit. With this arrangement greasing the shafts tales less than one minute.

ESC's are dual 180 Seakings and batteries are new 4S 45C, 5000 mAhr Lipos.

Initial tests runs for the dual Leopard Mean Machine are on Saturday with Jeff and Mark to supervise and tweak........in between more testing of their new Insane Hydro.

2200 is the KV. I think the 180 AMP Seakings may be an overkill. We have been running this 2200KV motor on Jeff's new design Insane Hydro with a 120 Amp ESC and never had a problem. But, Mark knows how to prop the boat so he will not destroy the motor or ESC. This set up did not have case cooling and things should run much better with the long Silicon water jackets.

I was very unsure of this set up myself. Mark F gave me some great encouragement when he said that since the Stingers extend the prop by over 5 inches, the Mean Machine may behave like a much longer boat. Also, the motors are mounted very low, as low as possible in the side sponsons to keep the CG as low as possible.

Here is a picture of the Stingers.........glad they have such a good adjustment range!

The attached picture shows a completed unit on top and a break down on the bottom. You can see the square shaft input section that is easily removed. I personally like it since I know of 4 flex shafts with expensive props lost by the guys on my lake. With this system you cannot loose the flex shaft and prop PLUS it is not very easy to lub the shafts after every run without taking off any delicate allen set screws.

I as sure Jeff W can make you a single flex shaft that will work with no problem is this is the set up you like to run.

Attached picture shows the twin Seaking 180Amp ESC's. and their mounting position in the Mean Machine. I had to cut down the stock gas engine motor mount where thefuel tank is normally located.

I know someone is going to ask me why I did not remove the entire mount including the original section that mounts the gas engine. Well, if the dual Leopard build turns out to be a bit slow, I now have the option of adding a third Leopard. I know, we have gone from the Insane Hydro to the Insane Mean Machine! Pictures show the "POTENTIAL ONLY" layout.

I put a single 4074 leopard 2200kv in my Mean Machine today, with an x440 4s2p 150 etti with extra caps, i ran it wet due to the wake being a bit high, temps with a ose silicone jacket 110f, caps 138f, this is with on an off throttle. I pulled 130 peak amps with an average of closer to 115 amps. I have to say this motor is very efficient compared to my 580 6L. I don't see a problem with the twin set up you got there let us know how it goes!!!
                            24 R/C vehicles and still counting...What budget?
