    Ok Jon,
I'LL definatey look at the batt options.I am looking at the Speedmaster site, I see the .21 size rudders and the SPDR 001-H but I like the 60\90 series SPDR-011-60MBA I like better but without any dimentions Im not sure about the 60\90 series if they will work. The struts dont give much for dims.

Flat bottom for the strut, 1.5" setback for the rudder. :)

OK , I now have most everything ordered except for a prop and a turnfin. Any tips on where to get a turnfin for this boat?? Also,What is the offset of the rudder from the strut (sideways) on a single strut\rudder setup?
        Antisipation............

You'll want the rudder to the right of the strut (from the transom) and the linkage on the right side of the rudder so the servo pulls to turn right, not push (makes sure the linkage doesn't bend under load)(hydros only turn right at speed).

Check here on OSE for the turn fin. There's one to match any color hardware. The UL1 polished stainless fin would work with your HW. There are also other people that make them themselves and sell them through the forums with PayPal.

Thanks Jon thats great info I need to do this build right. What is the distance to the right for the rudder?? I recieved my motor, motor mount and water jacket but the jacket wont fit between the MM brackets. I will check with OSE to get the right one or I will have to oblong the holes about .050. Batts, esc and rudder and strut are on the way...not soon enough. I could make my own turn fin if I had some dims.

I elongated the mounting holes on the MM sides just enough to allow room for the water jacket as well as insuring that the water jacket seal would clear the dimples at the front edge of the motor and it worked great. I will get the graphite cloth cut and ready.
I would still like to get the dims for the rudder from the side to side on a single strut/rudder unit (solinger).
              Still waiting for parts...............................

Got my hardware today, I am concerned about the .21 rudder, it is 6.25" oa in length. Im guessing this can be trimmed down but I dont know to what length. I will need to know this to start setting things up, any ideas????????????????

                  Noo!!!

You can use the .21 strut, but the mini rudder is what you should use for a vortex sized boat. It can be trimmed down though so if you're good with a dremel or have a bandsaw/scroll saw then your fine. The mini rudder has the same mount/hinge as far as I know, just a tapered blade that is longer. The mini rudder has a 4" long blade, so I would shoot for that.

Thanks Jon, I do have the tools to trim the rudder. The blade is 5.25 from the bottom of the mount so I will trim it down to 4". How far to the right of the strut do I mount the rudder??
                    I would guess about 1.25-1.5 ???

What do you guys think about all of the UL-1 hardware and electronics in one of these hulls? I'm concerned about the future of my UL-1 hull so I'm looking for something to put the guts into...

I have one of these hulls on the way and that is very much my intention, with some small deviations. I'll have:

                          DF Vortex Hull
                          UL-1 Turn Fin
                          UL-1 Strut
                          Speedmaster Mini Rudder
                          UL-1 Motor
                          SeaKing 120A ESC

Either .130 or .150 will work. 3/16" stub shaft is pretty much the standard size.
