I am building a DF Vortex and being new to this I am in need of help. I am lookiNg to find the best strut/rudder for the money and need more advice in proper location of motor and CG. I want my battery forward, I am using .125 flex cable and a 2881KV BRUSHLESS MOTOR. I am planning on getting a 90-120 amp esc and running 11.1V at this time . I figure I can upgrade that with the with a 120 amp esc if need be. These are just some of the directions I am looking at but need all the advise/help I can get.

Thanks J.M.
I am going to run a 2881kv brushless motor w/ 11.1V I dont know the brand but I do know it seems very fast. It was in a old Pica plastic hull 22" hydro. I did have trouble with the Pica when coming out of a turn she would spin out. I thought I could buy this DF Vortex hull and use the hardware from the Pica. I now realize the rudder may have been a bit short @ 2"overall. The Solinger parts are not in production for some reason. I was looking at Woltz rc boat but I dont have enough detail to know what to buy.Comment

DOES ANYONE HAVE A USED SOLINGER SET OR KNOW OF A GOOD ALTERNATIVE?? BOTH STRUT AND RUDDER.
I dont know the offsets or lengths for this hardware.Comment

Guys, I have a proboat Blackjack 26 Cat that has a strut on it that I think I can use ( purchase) It is 2.125" from the transom to the shaft dog(?) There is room for some adjustment if needed. The rudder is a possibility as well it is 3.5" long and has a setback of 3.375 with room for adjustment. Without knowing the setbacks and rudder depths I am just guessing.Comment

The plastic steerable outdrive? I would'nt even consider it.
If your looking for some lower cost HW (than solinger) try this:

Get the flat bottom strut and hydro style rudder.

Hey Thanks,
no its anodized aluminum and aseperate units for the new version nitro blackjack, I will check out the ones you have here. What is the setback for the rudder and strut, and depth of the rudder ??
ThanksComment

This is my Etti Delta Force Vortex pictures may be of some help, but Im no expert
first time out last weekend broke the servo free from the hulls floor no steering. will try again next week.

Don't forget to rough up the fiberglass and wipe it clean it with denatured alcohol and a paper towel (also removes sanding dust) before you try to bond anything to it.
I like that ETTI hardware!! You have your batteries up front under the speedo?

Thanks for al the info J M,
I was going to go with a .125 flex shaft, should I use 3/16? the Pro Boat setup is under nitro boats -parts list-at the Horizon website. It is actually 2" from the transom to the end of the strut. From what I see the rudder is no problem.Where is this ETTI hardware?
I work in the Aerospace industry and work with composites daily with excellent perks which reminds me I was considering laying a sheet of Graphite in the hull for added strength, what do you think

Really nice Sampit,
Great pics, I really like the way you have the foam in there. I have been looking at that Outrigger, How do you like it? I have one I am designing, its 24" and going to be electric. Designing is fun and challenging. I am real happy with my sponsons but the tub I fear is lacking in space but an easy fix for the next one. On your Vortex what is the thing up front with the 10 thingies on it? Aslo what is the setback on your strut from the trensom to the back of the strut?

That rudder would be fine. You could use that strut I guess... If you already have it, go for it. The main thing you want though is the leading edge of the rudder should be aligned with the trailing edge of the prop drive dog, or the leading edge of the prop.
You can find ETTI hardware here:
http://www.etti.com.hk/index.php?cPa...2qtuqmks1k19g6
Most of the ETTI stuff uses metric props and shafts which are very hard to find in the US.
Do you have a picture of the motor? Do you know what size it is? There might be a set of four numbers on the can, the first two are the diameter, the last two are the can length. If you can find these numbers on the motor, just measure yourself and let us know. The Kv sounds right, but it also needs to be the correct size.
The reinforcement is a good idea. It would probably be better to laminate a layer of woven carbon cloth onto the bottom because bonding a sheet to the hull will be pretty difficult since it's not flat. I'm sure you know all about surface prep and laminating epoxy, so I won't go there.
Those 10 cylinders on the boat above is the capacitor bank on the speed controller. It protects the electronics from voltage spikes. Which ESC are you planning on using? And what capacity and discharge rating (in C) are your LiPo's?

I dont know the actual brand name its a 2881KV purplish case, shaft measures .124" or 3.1496mm dia the can is 2.2455" or 57.0357mm in length and is 1.0885" or 27.5717mm dia.
As far as the rudder and strut its a set and do line up exactly as you say. The speed control I am considering is a Turnigy Marine 180amp esc
With an ultra fast CPU and USA power FETs, the Marine brushless esc is a high performance ESC capable of standard and competition use.
Programmable settings;
Reverse
Low Voltage (none/2.8v/3v/3.2v/3.4v)
Brake: (none/soft/hard)
Timing (0.00/3.75/7.50/11.25/15.00/18.75/22.50/26.25)
Constant Current: 180A
Burst Current: 360A
Resistance: .0007ohm
Battery: 2-6S Lipoly
BEC: 5.8v/ 3A
Motor Type: Sensorless Brushless
Size: 72 x 68 x 34mm
Weight: 165g
Thats what the plan is to laminate g cloth to the bottom
I was using 11.1v 3000 mAh 20-30C This is the setup I used in the Pico hydro with a 60 amp esc It was really fast at 1/2 throttle but when I gunned it it would spin out I think 2 things were wrong, the rudder was to shallow and there was no room for the battery except forthe side of the hull at the transom
