Just Another Crazy Cracker
Getting boats finished for the nats is taking a priority, and all is moving along pretty well. I am trying to cut down on materials cost and waste so have been trying to get projects done a few at a time. Here are some pics of my newly finished "Crazy Horse" crackerbox. It is all built from light plywood and has several scale features. I built the drivers once agian using Vintage pilot heads and built the helmets and body sections frrom scratch. The scale motor is a 1/6 Ford SOHC replica that I think looks pretty cool with the air cleaner and dual 4 barrel set up. The paint is a specail mix of PPG Radiance Apple Green Pearl that is over a Blue Pearl White base with Gold Pearl applied over the Apple Green. The stripes are Candy Colbalt Blue as are the drivers helmets. I wanted to keep the paint scheme clean and straight forward to allow the Apple Green to stand out on its own. I think this is my favorite CB I have built yet. I hope you enjoy it Here are some pics.

DANG Maniac! That is absolutely gorgeous! I can't imagine all that detail surviving the first flip though! She shore is purty man! Incredible job!
Where did you find that ford engine kit?
If you could produced a mold for casting those drivers in resin in one piece it would be phenomenal.Mini Cat Racing USA

The engine is a Revell 1/6 SOHC model motor kit that I used the top end from and added that to some other parts I had on hand. Revell makes several different 1/6 motor kits that parts can be used from.
I am working on some driver molds to fit 1/6 Crackers but trial and error takes some time but they are in the works.Last edited by Hydromaniac; 07-08-2010, 01:22 PM.Comment

Is that some kind of irridescent paint? looks green, but then looks yellow.. very groovy!
So are you saying I would have to buy a 1/10th scale P-51 fighter plane to get the Allison engine for my 1/10th hydro build? I really don't feel like building the engine out of balsa... There was a resin mold being developed that was talked about on RRR, but the link seems broken?"Look good doin' it"

There are some allison and merlin kits out there, I think the "Hydro Resigns kits will be back soon. just other things going right now.Comment

Super nice. I thought the 1/6 P-Spec Cracker exibition class was a dead letter. I see though that there are a half dozen or so entries at the Nats. So what gives? It looks by your boat that the sub surface drive is required by rules (?)
Very nice looking boat. I'd like to build one if there is going to be a Spec class with refinements to enable decent handling and - you know - the stuff required to let most entries finish races without blowovers. Thanks. I'm a newbie and not a great driver yet, or for that matter a not even very good driver yetComment

This class is no where near a dead letter, I have had to build quite a few for other guys around the country. It is a subsurface drive that allows for a slight "J" bend of the stuffing tube, The drive dog needs to be under the hull at the transome but the prop can extend a bit beyond the transome if desired. The CBs are taking off with this set up. Blow offs are not much of an issue they handle quite well in this configuration. nothing like the old 1/10 cbs and nothing like many were worried about, but you still have to drive them not just point and shoot. They are a lot of fun. and kind of run like a Crackerbox should . A little on the edge.Comment
