Whiplash / UL-1 Hatch and Canopy

I know that the two whips in my local club perform great. If you keep everything flat and square when sheeting the deck you should have a similarly performing hull.

You will not see the limits of this hull with a p-spec motor. It takes a healthy p-sport power plant to push the hull to the max. I have to run a ¾ longer rudder to keep things in control over 65mph.

Cutting the 3/4" foam is veryeasy using razor knife. I glued foam down with finishing epoxy.

You should pull a mold off those UL-1 hatch pieces! They are just ABS plastic and one minor crash and they're toast! Aquacraft wants $34 just for the nose piece! You could probably sell glass ones for a pretty decent price!

I purchased a new hatch from tower, I will have to cut it to make it fit. I will borrow the nose piece from my UL-1.

The Whiplash is fragile also. One minor crash and it may be toast.

For what its its worth, that servo is a good servo, but I didn't survive in my Whiplash the weight seems to take its toll on it.

Actually the whip is very tough for a wood boat. I pegged a turtle at high speed and had very minor damage, a bent rudder and a chip on the sponson tip, also collided with a UL1, the UL1 was toast, mine was only missing paint.

Mine isn't fragile either. I hit a bouy at full speed last weekend during a heat race, and it disintegrated the bouy... No damage to the boat.

I fiber glassed mine with 1.5oz glass though.

In picture the hull balance point is at Blazer Marines recommended 14 1/4" from transom or 2 1/2" from back edge of sponson. What is the perfect balance point? Hull weighs 4lbs 8ozs in picture.

I've found that 1" behind the sponsons is best. It may work where you have it for a spec motor/racing, but if you put a larger P-power plant in it you will want a more forward CG.
How much lead would it take in the sponson tips to get it to balance at 1"?

Would it be best to balance hull using P- power plant. I know using the heavier 4s 2p packs (two Hyperion 3300mah) hull balances more forward. It will not take much lead in sponson tips to get it correct. Hull weighs 4 1/2 lbs in picture.
