    Rudder mount break-away hinge with spring latch??

    Anyone come up with something like this yet? Or know how to make one with out a CNC machine..... I just think there has to be a better way (or cooler way) than a snap off bolt. Maybe....???

    ball nose plunger with a dimple in the rudder. You can set the tension on these too.

      My hydro came with a bolt in the top part of the rudder bracket but a cable tie through the bottom hole. It you smack something with the rudder the cable tie breaks and the rudder swings up and back. Easy to fix and seems to work. I have had it do that at least once before.

        Ok, Those give me some ideas. Thanks guys. I was thinking the breakaway bolt went in the transom, guess I was confused. Makes more sense now.....ha.

          I use a nylon 2/56 screw for my breakaway rudders

            That's what I did to a Graupner rudder: nylon bolt plus a spring. Works perfectly to get your boat back.
