Opinions on bottom of hull type octura water pickup??

I ordered one of these as my 2nd pickup:Product ID: oct-ocsw
    Octura Streamlined Water Pickup

I'm not sure I wana drill a hole in the bottom of the hull, but I figured this pickup would flow a good amount of water. I was thinking of mounting it about an inch or two forward of the transom on the left side (to maybe balance out the drag w/ the rudder being on the right?) and around an inch or two left of center hull. ??? Good idea? Or should I go with another style pickup?

My opinion is you dont need a second water pickup. On my SV27 The temps stayed +-2 degrees with one pickup to two. On my twin cat I use one pickup for both esc's and motors. Temps are all under 120 degrees after a 4 minute run.

Good to know. Thanks. I have a water jacket, water cooled motor mount and then the ESC. I was thining for one pickup, to run the water line to the esc first, then out to the motor mount, from the mount to the motor and then outlet...? Or would ESC (being most expensive) first, then motor, then mount be better??

I experimented with a few different thru hull pick ups that protruded past the bottom of the hull. All of them caused wierd characteristics in handling and ride attitude. Your best bet, if you feel you need another pick up is to use the aluminum flush mount thru hull steven sells, or just make them out of a piece of brass tubing. Theres a "how to" section on it in the 'tips and Info" section on the site.

Ok, what about the kind that mount vertically to the transome? Any downside to those? I would think the drag is pretty minimal? Maybe I'll just stick with one pickup, I am just thinking the water cooled motor mount being added in will "slow the flow"....? Do you guys that have a water cooled mount just run one pickup for all three (esc, motor, and mount)? I did order a Y and a T fitting if those would be good to use in hose routing???

You could also make a pick up like this

If you use the T or Y in the plumbing the water will flow the easiest way and somethings might not get as much cooling as others

Prop wash pickups are best IMO because you don't get any drag on the bottom of the hull and you can use a thinner rudder blade with less drag.
