    ESC question

I have read that people are putting bigger caps on there brushless escs. What specs do I need to look for on the new caps? Or what size do I get?

    I'm new to brushless stuff.

    Thanks

What speed control are you working with?

Ok, now what kind of voltage are you gonna thru her? Steven sells a Etti Cap board that I use and am very pleased with it so far. I think it handles up to 35v.

Prob 7.2v or 8.4v. I may use a lopo if I can find one to fit the space. Other wise Ill use MIMH.

if running a fairly low voltage as you 7.2-8.4 i would not bother
the caps are just a filter to help with voltage spikes

From what you have told me I don't think you will need any extra caps....I'd go with Li-po's! Don't be intimidated by them, they are light and have lots of power. Also you can get them in all kindsa sizes......

Thanks guys. My space is very limited. The boat is a cat that is only 15in long. So very tight on space.

We are here to help. You should have no problem finding a Li-po for that girl!

Speed Sport what size motor are you running and what prop? HobbyCity has Lipos that are probably more capacity at the same or higher voltage at less weight size and price then the NIMH you are running, they also have a great charger/balancer that I use for my bigger setups that works perfect for any lipo capacity upto 6s(22.2V)

I would 100% reccomend switching to lipo, I finally did about a year ago and theres nothing to it really, not to mention cheaper and way better, cheaper if you use hobby king anyway.

Heres a link to the Charger $22.00 http://hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store...w/_accessories

And heres one for a battery you might want $9.99 http://hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store...idProduct=7316

search for Rubycon ZLH series of capacitors - they are the best :-)
                      I paid ~$1 for 1500uF 35V
                      Other also good caps:
                      - Panasonic FC
                      - Rybycon ZL

I have thought about switching to lipos for a long time. I have a Ice charger but I can not remember if it will balance lipos.

obrien008 that battery may work but my problem is the space is more square than rectangle.

I will also be looking for a lipo for my 12in V hull. It is set up for 3 sub C cells on each side of the boat.

Well there are tons of configuraitions availible there, just follow this link and choose the setup, the flightmax and turingy batts are more square while the rhinos are longer/thinner, you could even get 2 single cells at the capacity you want and put them in where you want and run them paralled or in series. You wont regret the switch
